Racing Post Trophy

He's out due to the ground.

I like the chance of Kingston Hill but there's been a head of steam building up behind Pinzolo all week and he's currently just favourite on Betfair.

Kingston Hill was very impressive but I felt that some behind looked a bit over the top .

A proper horse the winner though - settles well , travels and has a very good turn of foot .

What is his dam's pedigree like - will he get 1m 4f ?

Not the strongest of fields , but the winner looks a proper horse,
On this evidente 12 f should suit, but I want to see him on good ground.

Didn't beat much, imo, and looked more of a Leger horse than a Derby winner.

His pedigree is that of a 10f horse. He might be effective over a mile in the spring granted a strong pace and good or slower ground and he has prospects of staying 12f although that wouldn't be certain. He's most unlikely to stay the Leger trip.

pleasing result, considering the winner was the market leader, how they made pinzolo
as short as 4/1 on only a class 2 win to its name ) has shot into 2nd postion on the
top european 2yos this season, hopefully toormore will win the guineas next year.

Moot point about his best distance, Gus, though they'd laugh at him in the Guineas.
Though he won well yesterday, it took him a while to pick up and beat what are essentially 2 other stayers. Just don't see him having the speed for a normal Epsom.

Why? As a result of an impressive win on heavy ground yesterday he's now pigeon-holed as a slow plodder. Why ignore his previous win on better ground at Newmarket when he came from last to first, showed a good turn of foot and quite readily beat a smart in-form yardstick in a decent overall time?

I'm not saying he's a good thing for the Guineas or anything like but I certainly wouldn't write him off for it and it would appear Varian has no intention of doing so.

Gus
He may have done all of those things - against lesser opposition, but was more highly tried yesterday, and showed more of his limitations.
I'd prefer to judge him on that.

Surely in that ground reet it's always going to take a little longer to pick up? Aside from that, I just always believe that breeding is the key to stamina rather than perceived racing style. Time and again the pedigree says it all.

I like this horse.

I'd much prefer racecourse performance over breeding as a guide to a horse's capabilities. Having said that, there's plenty of stamina on the dam side of KH's pedigree, and Mastercraftsman was much more of a grinder than a quickener. Certainly didn't have the speed to win a Guineas.

 Aye, Aragorn, should've said the Guineas, and he scraped home in the dying strides of the SJP, courtesy of the furious pace (RP definition) set by his stablemate. Still a grinder though, and says little for KH's Guineas' prospects, anyway.
