I was full of admiration and pleasure for the winner of the The Grand National whilst ruing my losing bets on the gallant runner-up. Then I discovered that I may well have been cheated out of my winnings by the overwhipping of the winner and I have been festering ever since.

Did the overwhipping influence the result? Surely, that’s for the stewards to decide as they do for other breaches of the rules? For some unaccountable reason that’s not an option for them and all they can do is penalise the jockey. How is that fair?

I would thought it would be an instant cure for the problem if there was instant disqualification for overwhipping. Rare would be the jockey prepared to incur the wrath of owners and trainers for getting their horse disqualified. Currently, it seems to me that it is quite the reverse with jockeys far more likely to incur their wrath by sticking to the rules and not driving (unfairly) their horse to a win.

It’s a running sore that needs to be sorted.

Agree with much of this unfortunately it could go down the "was it 6 or was it 7" (or the like) road if implemented.

I've no solution to offer, except perhaps no strokes whatsoever, so the sore will continue to run - and most likely fester

In the heat of the moment I'm sure Sam wC lost count.
The thing is,when you watched the race finish did you think, hes whipping that horse too many times or excessively..I didnt.
