Watching Channel 5 New sthis evening they announced that a betting scam has been discovered involving reality shows. X Factor, I'm A Celeb, Big Brother have all been targeted by a "gang" who have managed to get inside info from an insider who works on the telephone voting system Betfair alerted the makers of these shows after large sums were being placed on individuals close to the lines closing. They reported to have made £35k alone on X factor (yeah and the rest!) - Simon Cowell was interviewed & looked suitably shocked.

Why they only just woken up to this? I e-mailed Channel 4 about 3 years ago when a hugely fancied person was evicted from Big Brother and suggested they look into betting patterns as there was something dodgy going on. I wouldn't be surprised if Maria from X Factor was targeted as she was one of the favs & about 33-1 to be evicted that night but 8-1 at the end & lets face it I'm sure there were plenty of people who wanted to lay her! B)

The evictions in particular have been rigged for years - a lot of firms won't take bets on the evictions for that reason.

I have little respect for anyone who watches trashy reality tv problems and none for those silly enough to wager their hard-earned on it. I suppose it's a shame for those who lost money in good faith, but they must have been aware that this sort of thing could be going on.

At least we can be thankful that nobody ever uses insider information to make money on horse racing (and then complains that bookmakers don't lay them big bets).

Was anyone involved in bookmaking in the late seventies or early eighties when we used to get to know who would be Miss World the day before the competition?
