Recent new inventions

The briquette thing is hardly new. They were being advertised about 20 years ago (I thought about buying one for all the old newspapers before deciding the problem was that I was buying too many newspapers!!) although without reading the description this one may be different.

I've seen them in Lakeland's catalogue and a few local shops.

My favourite new things are silicone pods for poaching eggs in. You just turn them inside out when the egg is cooked.

I just don't see what's wrong with a pan and water, not exactly rocket science to poach an egg properly :)

I'm typically someone who is into new technology and gadgets, but a lot of them remind me of the episodes of Dragon's Den where the victims have invented some complicated piece of equipment to perform a task which can be done perfectly adequately by things which have been around since the dark ages..

No, it isn't, and I prefer the 'natural' look of an ordinary poached egg. However, if I'm doing more than two at the one time I tend to use a poaching pan with non-stick cups for the eggs.

Speaking of eggs, though, I reckon an egg fried in proper dripping is by miles the most satisfying kind of egg. I've tried different types of oil etc but they just don't do it for me.
