Reg Hollinshead RIP

I'm sorry to hear this.

He seems to have been around forever and always came across as a nice, modest man.

He brought on some very good jockeys but you'd have to say he didn't make a great job of his best horse, Remainder Man, with whom he went to the well too often.

I've been following racing since about 1970 and I remember he used to be a dab hand in sellers and nurseries, and his Chester runners were always to be respected. Fitting in a way, then, that he'll probably be especially remembered this week.

I've been following racing since about 1970 .
About the same here, but I remember him mainly as having an atrocious strike rate with his runners. I remember him year/in-year/out having the worst LSP of most all other trainers in the old Trainers Record book.
Anyway, R.I.P to the gentleman. He had a good innings. May he rest peacefully.

I wasn't into strike rates and other stats.

I do remember spending far too many summer-holiday-afternoons in the local Hills shop punting like an idiot (to small stakes - tanner/shilling doubles/trebles across the card). Jeez, that was so stupid. Still, it kept me off the streets.
