Replacement jockeys

Is there a rule regarding replacement jockeys?

I'm just wondering why Robert Thornton hasn't switched to Godsmejudge rather than put up overweight on Midnight Appeal, while Coleman can do the latter's weight with ease.

Some of King's owners seem to have lost confidence in Thornton maybe that is why .
