Talking to various colleagues, I am surprised that many of them do not realise that Highway faults ie potholes, street lamps out etc. can be easily reported on-line. Simply Google highway faults plus your county and you should find your local government site.
I think there are varying responses for different counties but if you don't report it, it won't get fixed.

I can't print what the response from East Sussex would probably be! Something like 'far cough', judging by their effort to turn most of our roads into prep runs for the East Africa Rally.

It really does work and they have certain time limits when they have to do it by, and at the moment you can bet they are only doing the ones we complain about.
I reported some very bad ones yesterday lunchtime and they were fixed this morning, probably won't last long, but better than nothing!

I think if you report the faults and include photos, with a ruler placed to allow measurements to be calculated, they will find it hard not to feel obliged to act pretty smartly. They will know that anyone who goes to that length is preparing to sue them if they don't attend to it within the legal maximum time!

Roads are very good in my area and it's relatively rural outside Leeds.

Bit of a pleasant surprise coming from Ireland. As for home, trying to get through to the Meath county council is like talking to a wall.
