I was out for a meal last night at a local, not very cheap restaurant. The meal was delicious and I ordered a liquer coffee to finish. The waitress brought it over and promptly spilled it right down me. I now have a coffee stained top, coffee stained jeans and a new coffee stained handbag. They were very apologetic and have offered to pay any cleaning bills, which I shall most definately be sending them. However, that was it. No free drink, no free bottle of wine, nothing off the bill. Was I expecting too much? Given that I spent the end of my night rather soggy and reeking of coffee and have the hassle of taking my clothes to a dry cleaners I think I should have got a free something at least.

I was a bit too drunk to even think about it at the time. It's only now, in the cold light of day that I have started to think I should have received something more. However surely its something that should have been offered, rather than asked for? I would love to say I'm not going to go back on principle, but the food is just too good.

when you take the dry cleaning bill around, make sure you give it to the manager and tell him you were rather upset at the treatment on the night. If it is a chain restaurant, send an email off to the head office. You will probably receive something by way of an apology.

A few years ago on a weekend trip to the Arc, on the Saturday night our coach dropped us off near the Notre Dame where there are several restaurants so that we could all choose what type of meal we wanted. Mrs DG and I were standing outside one which didn't look very full and looking at the menu when all of a sudden the place started filling up so we thought we had better get in quick as we had to meet the coach again relatively soon. More people came in behind us as well and we were all ushered upstairs and shown to a seat.

A short while later a waitress came walking past and left us both a plate with salmon on it. Now neither of us eat salmon so I eventually caught her attention and in my best schoolboy French attempted to explain that we had not ordered this. After what seemed like an eternity I discovered she was actually Polish, didn't speak much French but could speak fluent English so explained we hadn't ordered this.

"Yes you have," she said, "you have all ordered the same"

"All ?"

"The whole party"

It transpired everyone going into the restaurant was from a Wallace Arnold party and we had gone in after some of them with the rest following behind
So we then had to reorder but as they were dealing with the party our meal took ages to arrive. After a while a glance at the watch told us we were due back at the coach in five minutes so dashed off to just catch the coach but not having had a meal at all. Twas a long time until breakfast.

Often wondered what happened when the waitress eventually arrived at our table with our meals.

My Mother bought herself a very smart new dress, to be worn for the first time when my Father took her out for an anniversary lunch in our town's best restaurant. With a smart new hair-do and feeling very glamorous, she swept in on his arm and they enjoyed a lovely meal. My Mother secretly basked in the many glances shot her way during the meal, and thought that she and my Pa made a rather fetching couple. There were more interested glances on the way out, too, she noted rather smugly.

It wasn't until they reached the car that Mother felt a tickling at her elbow. There, hanging off the belt of the new dress, were three conspicuous shop tags - the size and the price being the biggest!
