Three horses ran over last week or so with performances that had class stamped all over them. I’ll be surprised if they don’t rake in a few good prizes between them.
Yesterday, in the Class 1 Listed 1m2f at Newbury Real World oozed class. He didn’t get a clear run until just over a furlong out and then put the race to bed in a few strides. The two three year olds dominated decent older horse and Derab is no slouch, but he had absolutely no answer to Real World.
“I was boxed in and had nowhere to go two furlongs out, but I think that was a good thing because it was his first time over that trip. He just showed what he can do and I think he did it pretty easily” Marco Ghiani
Bin Suroor said by telephone: “He’s a nice horse and he did very well after Ascot. “The other day he worked on the Limekilns and he was flying. He’s improving all the time. Anything over a mile or 10 furlongs we’ll look at, but it will be Group races – no more handicaps for him now, he won’t go for the Golden Mile (at Goodwood).”
At Newmarket Baaeed crushed Maximal (a top class yardstick) in the Class 1 Listed Sir Henry Cecil without really trying. A bit slowly away he was held up in last the just cruised through the field from two furlongs out, shaken up briefly a furlong out he quickly moved clear and then coasted in. He was up in class and clearly belonged. Very impressive
“BAAEED looks talented and is an exciting horse. He's got plenty of speed and showed a great turn of foot. His brother is a mile-and-a-half horse but there's no hurry to step him up in trip right now. I thought it was a really good Listed contest so it was very positive to see him win like that coming from the back. I'm not yet sure where we could go next with him but I won't miss a good entry - William Haggas,
So far as Mutasaabeq (previous post) it was more a case of seeing him coming back from disappointment and confirming that his earlier exploits were no flash in the pan, albeit that he only won a Class 3 against very limited opposition. Still a question mark hanging over him, of course, but very encouraging.
