Midsomer Murders specialises in magpies chattering. Magpies are supposedly birds of ill omen, etc., etc., so there's a little bit of subliminal menace there, you see... :teeth:

Just as the doomed one unwisely approaches the old, deserted mill/house/barn, listen for a magpie to start a rapid chatter in the background, the sudden movement off-screen, the 'oh, it's you' remark, followed by and then the screeeeeammm, followed by another swift chatter before switching to DCI Barnaby being bored to tears by his droning wife and drippy daughter. No wonder the murder rate's so high - I reckon he's done half of them just to get out of the house.
