if the ground is good or good to soft
what side do you prefer for the 2yo races and the sprints?
low or high numbers?

That's a good question, Suny.

Problem is that sometimes the jocks get an idea in their head and they favour one side strongly which can lead to some false races and results.

Isn't Ascot one of the courses that has been affected by the new draw rules.

I think stand-side is now high and that would be the one I would favour but again I think it is a matter of wait and see.

Worth bearing in mind that stalls have been placed in the centre tomorrow and Ascot's going stick readings suggests the ground is quicker there than on either rail.

From BHA website.

(GoingStick: Standside 8.3, Centre 8.9, Farside 8.4, Round 7.5
on Monday at 08:00)

Could someone clear up for me the draw at Ascot. Whenever I watch coverage they always seem to say different. It's better on the far rail, it's better on the near side, it's better in the centre. I can never understand who has an advantage, if anyone at all? This question is regardless of distance, ground or straight and round course - I'd be more than grateful if someone could explain all of the differences.

what happens is imo..they let the first day go by..if there is a perceived bias..say low..that evening they water the the low side:)

its impossible at this course ever to know Simon..they change it from day to day

just back your fancy..and hope for the best

You're probably right, but I'll be there on Thursday and when I'm at the races I like to have a small bet in all of the races, for an interest if nothing else, and then have a bit bigger bet on something I really fancy (if there is anything).

best advice imo is back one in each half of the draw in big fields

i've never been to Ascot..is it your first time there?

It's best to bite the bullet and go with where the fancied horses are grouped. They will find their own best ground at Ascot, or at least likely have the best shot at going where that might be.

thats unlikely though Steve when you are stuck high or low and halfway through the race your silks look like you have been racing at the back of 2 mile hurdle race in the middle of winter..and you realise you are well and truly shagged as far as finishing in the money

What I really mean is that you can over-theorise on the draw... I always prefer to back the horse, all things considered.

A lot depends on the pace of the race but when the ground is good or slower, it often favours those drawn low at Ascot, ie. on the far side because they tend to come up the middle and edge to the far side.

No it's not my first time, EC1, but it's my first time at the new course. Royal Ascot is great, great atmosphere, good racing and all the people and the dressing up is what makes it different. It's certainly different to Cheltenham, but both are still great.
