Mr O'Leary may be sueing the British government for the harm that he says the new security measures are causing his profitability but he has been quick to recognise an opportunity.

From Friday, Ryanair passengers who check in luggage at the airport will pay £7.00, an increase of 40% on the £5.00 charge imposed in March.  A similar rate of increase applies to baggage checked in online - £3.50 per bag, up from £2.50.

At the same time the maximum weight allowed before excess baggage charges are incurred is reduced from 20 kg to 15 kg.

To avoid these charges passengers can always take what they need in their hand luggage.  (AS long as all they need is a small toothbrush.)
