So, st Leger day and I've crept out from under my rock (boulder lol) to look at what's on offer.
Suffice to write that this has not been a good flat season for me but fortunately I have not incurred too much of a pocket - hit so that's a relief.
I do like this meeting and although any bets will be nominal, I thought I'd try three for size:
Galeron - 1.15 Doncaster 13/2 Ew 4 places.
I was taken by his run at Sandown in July and he went into my notes thus:
His last run convinced me that 1m or further is the deal so now he's rated 5Lbs lower than that Sandown run, I have to give him an ew go.
The Portland is always a good watch and difficult, the 5.5f being quite a specific task.
Seven Questions - 2.25 Doncaster 50/1 Ew 6 places
Yes, I know: 50/1.
I'm loving the price rather than intimidated by it. Cowell certainly knows the time of day with his sprinters, doesn't he. he went into my alerts in June and I made these comments:
28/06/25 York H/cap Cl2 3yo+ 5f Good OR 103
It could be that this trip will be right up his street and what with being 7Lbs lighter here than that York run and the first-time visor, I'm happy to take a lovely ew price.
2 x Ew singles
Ew double
Lastly, I had great hopes for Scandinavia earlier on in the season and he's paid in full. Yes, he's a cup horse but I wouldn't be deserting him now.
Good luck.

This was staying on late to suggest that further might be tried, perhaps. His entries don’t suggest that and he’s entered up in some big races over 7f-1m. Whatever, this was definitely a step in the right direction after his decent run in the Hunt Cup. Versatile ground – wise. Little over 2 years ago he was running well in group company, you know – beaten 3L by Paddington, no less. He’s worth checking on.

This race was run in a very good time and this fellow was not unduly punished but made nice, quiet headway at the end. It’s not known how he’d cope with 6f but he blew out in last season’s Stewards Cup; even though his saddle slipped, he was fading anyway. Worth keeping a quiet eye on.
