If you can’t feel excited about today’s NH, there must be something wrong, unless you’re simply a flat fanatic. So, plenty of opportunity to cause untold damage to our betting accounts. Really, there are only two committed bets from me today:
Hillcrest – Cheltenham 12.40 25/1 Ew
I’m intrigued as to how this one will fare today. I know that we had a brief exchange of views on him after his chase debut, DO, and we held differing views on that first run. In my opinion, it was a lovely performance considering he was pitched in against such experience and quality and his jumping, I thought, was very good. I’m expecting all sorts of improvement today but it seems that I may be the only one of this opinion since he’s drifted right out to 25/1 this morning. I suppose I should take the hint that it's not the day but I feel he needs to be backed, come what may. Whatever happens, I shall be watching Hillcrest very carefully.
Madara – Cheltenham 1.50 3/1 Win.
It’s always a little disconcerting when you see a horse taking sustained support in advance of a big race, don’t you think? Paradoxically, it makes me feel less confident. To be honest, the price is too cramped for such a competitive contest but I’ve had this in mind since his last run so I haven’t shied away. It is a shame that the ground isn’t riding softer but there you go.
I think both Sure Touch and In Excelsis Deo are too generously priced and might be decent Ew bets.
Elsewhere, I have had a little interest as follows:
Straw Fan Jack – Doncaster 2.05 Ew
Etalon – Cheltenham 2.25 Ew
Imperial Fighter Southwell 4.45 Ew
Ew Patent
Judicieuse Allen – Fairyhouse 12.00 Ew
Does He know – Doncaster 2.05 Ew
Ballynaheer – Newcastle 2.32 Win
Win Patent.
Hillcrest – Cheltenham 12.40 25/1 Ew
