As the flat season heads toward its end, there's some nice racing today with, of course, the caveat of the soft and heavy ground. As if Saturdays weren't hard enough.
I offer precious little commentary on my choices today. There are a few little comments to write, though. Firstly, Racingbreaks Ryder (4.05 Catterick) seemed to leap off the page although it seems like a long time since that Spring Handicap at Newbury, doesn't it?
Here are three which seem to have decent chances and prices so I combine them so:
Unequal Love - 1.55 Ascot 16/1
Yes, I know: the going. I'm taking a chance on that but with Dutch Art the sire and a pivotal mare, I'm thinking that soft ground would offer no obstacle.
Burdett Road - 1.20 Ascot 28/1
A new distance is tried here and I'm taking a chance that the horse may be improving fast enough to get a frame berth. Certainly a good price, eh?
Vintage Clarets - 4.45 Catterick 3/1 Won 5/1
I'm not sure the rise after his last win will be enough to stop him winning this race for the second consecutive year.

Three shorties:
Fresh Speculation - Stratford 1.40 11/4
Westerninthepark - Stratford - 2.20 4/6 Won 4/6
Racingbreaks Ryder - Catterick 4.05 15/8 Won 85/40
Win Trixie
I shall have two main bets:
Witch Hunter - Ascot 4.35 25/1 Ew Placed 25/1
You know, this one's been on my mind since his cracking fourth to Charyn in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot. Group 1, over a mile. He's had five runs since all, except one, over 7f. The only mile race was a lovely second to Holloway Boy, whom he meets today on 1Lb better terms but he dwelt that day and I'm thinking they might have had this race in mind since Ascot. At 25/1, he must represent value here, surely and here we are in 1m handicap with not even top weight.
Northern Reel - Stratford 5.20 8/1 Ew Placed 12/1
He looks like he might be able to come good in this very poor Cl5 handicap chase. His form looks very nice within the context of this race and the only question mark would be whether he'll handle the going. At 8/1, I'll pay to find out.

Ew Double.
