Great racing at York and as competitive as you'll find.
An absolute wallet-rinser, of course, and tomorrow's no different so I've chosen a couple and I'll leave it like that as far as this blog goes.
In the Constantine handicap sprint, I've picked one that, on some form reading looks to have a decent chance, inasmuch as anything does in this cavalry charge. I suppose I should leave well alone but it's the last day and I'm going to chance my arm with:
Lampang - 4.10 York - 16/1 Ew Unpl
No, not today. It was clear from halfway that he wouldn't be winning today. There you go; worth a spin[/COLOR]
He's been gelded this season and they say it's been the making of him. Certainly, his win at Pontefract earlier on does look good. His beating of Bergerac there looks excellent in light of what that one achieved this week. On his last run, he also had King Of Stars behind, giving him weight. That was over 5f, not up his street, and it looks like they've kept him ticking over for this. He's lightly raced so I'm hoping there may be some improvement to come.
Talking of lightly - raced, how about:
Licence - 3.35 York - 12/1 Ew Unpl
Last of the three Irish chlaaengers. It looked like he didn't stay. As I wrote: lightly raced and it'll be interesting where they decide to go with this well bred colt.
This one's only had four runs under rules in his whole career so far. Who knows what he'll turn out to be? It could be that he's just incredibly well handicapped here. On his last three runs, they whacked into a listed race, a Gp 2 and latterly a Gp 3, where he was 5L behind Cleveland - the Chester Cup winner. He ran on into 4th place that day over 12fa nd I reckon that the 16f of the Ebor will be right up his alley.
He's a full brother to Raclette, you know, who contested the Gp1 Yorkshire Oaks yesterday: beautifully bred and that old adage of a group horse in a handicap may well bear fruit tomorrow. At any rate, given how inexperienced this horse is, there might be any amount of improvement to come. Given all that, I have no hesitation in backing this. Win or lose, he has to be done.
Good luck
