Good morning.

I'm writing this blog in response to OS's comments on the Veteran's Chase Final today at Sandown.

As you write, mate, we both locked onto Prime Venture last and were handsomely rewarded at 20/1. Actually, I got an even better 28/1 early doors, as I recall.

I backed him because i thought I had an edge in noticing that he'd swerved the Welsh Nash for this, even though he'd run very well in the National before.

Today he's back to the watering hole off the same mark as last year. Can he do it again?. I think he has a very good chance tbh. Last year, his staying won him the day as he came late when others had had enough. Today, there are those in the race that will ensure a good gallop and, again, stamina will kick in late up that hill.

I think I shall be backing him ew at the current 8/1 for 5 places. That's good value.

Like you, Goughs, I'll have a second shot but my choice will be Run To Milan at 10/1 Ew.

There are two of his runs that catch my eye. Firstly, his fourth behind Iwilldoit last season at Chepstow. Yes, he was beaten out of site but he did stay on late that day to perhaps give us promise for his staying credentials. We shouldn't forget that Iwilldoit went on to win the Welsh National, too.

The second but perhaps the most impressive run that catches the eye is his 2nd to Win My Wings at Exeter. He was only just beaten that day, giving WMW 2Lbs. In the light of that horse's subsequent form, it's a fantastic run that looks good in the context of today's contest. RTM was rated 130 that day yet runs here on 128: that looks a decent mark, to me.

Whatever happens, it's these sort of races that stoke my love of NH and I shall enjoy the race no matter which outcome prevails.

Good luck
