Count On Qasi To Come Good

qasilq1.jpg

Peter Chapple-Hyam's season hasn't really taken off this season but the recent heavy rain showers leave the yard feeling a bit more confident about this weekends assaults abroad.

Al Qasi (Nap) may not be capable at the top level but at Group 3 level he is perfectly acceptable. Working 7f on the Limekilns on Tuesday he breezed out nicely chasing up Chantilly bound Winker Watson. Completing his work in fine style he looked ready to bounce back to form and having failed to get the mile last time the return to 7f will help him when he tackles the 4.00 at the Curagh this afternoon. The heavy rain should see the ground come up soft and on recent work you can expect Al Qasi to go close.

The John Smith's cup is always tricky but handicap guru Luca Cumani looks set to strike gold again. Unsuited by fast conditions at Ascot Monte Alto never really raised a blow, but back over 10f on slow ground he has everything going for him. Over 7f on the Limekilns on Wednesday he looked in top order striding out 2l to the good of Lion Sands with lead horse Bauer tucked up in behind. Monte Alto is in top order on the gallops and should give Mutajarred a big run for the money. The Haggas trained 4yo brushed aside Heaven Knows in a recent gallop and will love the ground.

Hajoum (4.25 - York) is a 2yo worthy of mentioning. Keeping tabs on Combat Zone at home he has done plenty of work ahead of his debut today. He is one to keep on the right side of today, although the ground is a big question mark.

Maramba (9.00 Salisbury) would be one of my stronger bets today and she has improved from a fair run at Ascot. The ground was probably a bit lively for her that day and she was squeezed up when trying to make ground. She looked in good order last weekend when do her latest piece of work and will relish the ground this evening.

In the 3.40 at Nottingham General Ting is worth a look and he needed the run last time. He looked good on Tuesday on the gallops when matching Suite Francais and had previously looked good in gallops with Casual Garcia and Astrodome. Ground won't phase him today but he is no max bet.

Advised Bets

Al Qasi - 4.00 - Curragh - NAP
Maramba - 9.00 - Salisbury
Monte Alto / Mutajarred - 3.15 - York (both ew)
General Ting - 3.40 - Nottingham
Hajoum - 4.25 - York

Others To Note

Metaphoric - 4.00 - Ascot, working well but done no favours in the jockey department.

Eastern Anthem - 3.50 - York, couldn't be in better form and ground okay, lots of weight but got enough ability to carry it off.

Select - 2.00 - Nottingham, Peter Chapple-Hyam's best filly but I don't know if she'll go on the ground.

Good Luck
Chris
