Scoop6 races could be announced on Thursday

Racing Post staff

FORTUNE-SEEKERS could be given extra time to hunt for the winners that could help them land Saturday's biggest ever Scoop6 pot after it was revealed on Tuesday night that talks are taking place to enable the six races to be nominated earlier than usual.

The six components of the Tote bet are normally decided upon on Friday, but such is the interest in this week's Scoop6, which is likely to have a win fund of around £2 million, that the organisers are attempting to announce which races will feature on Thursday.

The Tote is negotiating with Wetherby, Channel 4 and the BHA to ensure the six legs are as competitive as possible, which could require the possible incorporation of an extra race from Wetherby into Channel 4's live schedule.

Jason Brautigam of Totepool said: "We are keen to give everyone as long as possible to study the form for the six races, and we want to choose six races that will create the best chance of a huge dividend.

"We're hopeful that by Thursday morning we'll be in a position to announce exactly which races will be included in what is sure to be an exciting afternoon."
:D

Seems to me that will favour the professional syndicates, and disadvantage the small punter. Boo!
Imo they should make it possible for a few winners to emerge, given the huge pot, rather than make it as hard as possible

Not true, although it's a common argument. In a lottery scenario, small punters are never disadvantaged in relation to big syndicates as such, as each line has a theoretically equal chance of winning. Big syndicates would actually be advantaged by having several small field and/or uncompetitive races as they could then attempt to "buy" the pot with a perm that virtually guarantees success as sometimes happens with Jackpot rollovers. Six very open races means that such a blanket perm is prohibitively expensive even for the biggest syndicates. For example, six races in which ten horses per race are viable winners would mean a perm costing two million pounds. Even Mr Findlay would blanch at that.

The big negative in putting several obscure races in the Scoop6 is simply that punters have stronger opinions in better races and even irregular bettors are comfortable picking a scoop6 based on decent racing at Cheltenham. Throw in a class 4 handicap hurdle from a gaff track and possibly an all weather nursery and it will put punters off having a go. The Tote want to maximise their earnings and any publicity my having either no winners again or a single winner who would be front page news ~ ironically, they may be putting swathes of people off by pursuing this very line.

A WEALTH of declarations at Cheltenham on Saturday will make the monster seven-figure Scoop6 tougher than ever.

As well as the capacity 20-runners in the Paddy Power Gold Cup, 11 have been declared for the Grade 3 Servo Computer Services Trophy at 2.00, including Grand National winner Comply Or Die.

Capacity fields from the two televised races at Wetherby mean a total of 87 declared runners will have to be considered by those looking to land this week's pot, which already stands at £1.3 million, with the six races shared between Cheltenham and Wetherby.

Tote Scoop6

Leg 1 - 2.00 Cheltenham
Leg 2 - 2.35 Cheltenham
Leg 3 - 2.55 Wetherby
Leg 4 - 3.10 Cheltenham
Leg 5 - 3.25 Wetherby
Leg 6 - 3.45 Cheltenham :)

Lend me £200...

2.00 Halcon Gen(1), Karanja(8)
2.35 Ashley Brook(2), Ouzbeck(4), Silverburn(12)
2.55 Leading Man(1), Killard Point(7)
3.10 Fair Along(2), Sullumo(5)
3.25 Smoothly Does It(7), Knockavilla(12)
3.45 Hivikos(8), Weather Front(6)

Not really a viable strategy, but I just couldn't go into some of those races with one runner and any degree of confidence. Where as the above at least gives me the far preferable... next-to-no confidence... :D

I probably won't even have a bet - If I did then perhaps Ashley Brook and Fair Along as bankers and make it a £32 stake? Getting back towards zero confidence there though...

The same syndicates that have built up the pool over the last few weeks.

waiting until next week to go in large, me and mates all feel it won't be won today, too many big fields for there not to be a couple of shocks.

Chucked a monkey at it myself, but gone for a nice bet on Fleet Street today, at 22s, just hope Tinks doesnt track Ruby to the 2nd last !!

There's a decent meeting at Lingfield on the AW next Saturday so I hope it isn't won today, unless my £16 worth comes in but seen as I can't pick winners over jumps for love nor money I doubt that'll be the case. If Cheltenham's going was "standard" I'd be mildly confident. :D

Wouldn't like to be the one holder of the Maneki Neko ticket as he hit the front briefly after the last.
