I wonder if anyone can point me to some location (free or otherwise) where I can access sectional times for UK and/or Irish races?

On a related note, I'd be interested to hear the informed opinions of the experts on here about speed ratings - and who produces the best and most reliable.

All comments welcome and appreciated.

Thanks

The two that I use are timeform's timefigure(only for flat) and Racingpost topspeed(for flat and jumps). They're somewhat reliable but I've done some research a year ago on 3 years of data and both higher rated speed figures horses(Tfig and TS) were on a loss at the SP. I personally only use them in conjunction with normal ratings and other personal ratings as I've come to realise that taking them standalone leads to bankruptcy.

As for sectionals, Turftrax has them free but only for some of the important meetings: http://www.turftrax.co.uk/tracking-technologies.html

 jesus.. talk about conspiracy theories..I can delete my post you know and give the man a pm..

I hope Colin is seeing this and has a laugh as he knows where I'm from if checking my ip(not uk not ireland).. until then I'm out of here.. I had hoped the herd instincts woulnd't give in when being accused of being a troll by some that have tens of thousands of posts but alas it seems I'm marked now.. lol

Many thanks Aughex. Much appreciated. I will check out the Turftrax link. Not sure what all the other comments relate to - but thanks for taking the time.

Aughex (Mr W), it is obvious, you've been round the block too many times. I just wish you'd stick to one handle and contribute properly. When you cut the crap the rest is worth listening too. I've ever really understood why you feel the need.

Why not stick with this incarnation and stay around properly for once?

Maruco, honestly, i try to read between the lines of what you're implying but obviously you take me as some kind of a shill poster? I honestly never knew much about this forum(other than its existence) until about 1 year ago. I am trying for the past 6-7 years to build enough momentum for the average punters to fight against bookies that don't take a decent bet(online mostly, but in shops as well), thats not an agenda but a wish that we could unite in front of those crooks. I am mostly on SBC and Betfair forums. I was trying to contribute here as much as I could helping with alternative betting methods and talk about value, form etc but if you look past my short history here as soon as I mentioned something about Hurricane Fly form(I thought neutral but someone thought negative) I was given the Grasspoper (or whatevr the nickname is) treatment with a remark along the lines "bullshit", at the same time not being confronted with any arguments to deny what I said.

I won't continue posting as a lunatic on here, giving my opinion on my spare time as long as an admin doesn't clear my name as its quite easy (as I'm not native english speaker or living in UK or Ire) for an admin to publicly dismiss whatever I'm charged with looking at my IP. I just trying to help to help the OP of this thread. I have stirred some discussions in here(latest with hurdlers current situation), mostly because I'm new blood and people aren't used with my opinions around here but to be charged of talking to myself or how I'm a troll by users with ten of thousands of posts, is quite ridiculous. I wish to continue peacefully/rationally(without the Crasshoper remarks) to talk with passionate horse racing fans but my opinion on Fly won't change, an average champion hurdler, NOT great(his form of beating Pedlers by 1 length, Jezki on soft ground and ROR on a declining curve, clearly overused by his fans when describing how he beat champions) so if that opinion is not allowed in here I'm obviously just going to stop.

I wish everyone a happy new year and if I'll be allowed to talk again on this forum it'll be when my name will be cleared of the shill account accusations. Cheers to all and sorry OP for taking up this thread with something extremely off-topic.

Not a native English speaker hey. Go back and read your own posts. Until this one of course!

I'm pretty sure you originally posted your location as Scotland so I may have to give you the non native English speaker though!

Absolutely hilarious stuff. It's not the 'IP address' that gives you away each time, it's just the 'IP'! My IP address and county has changed since we jousted last time by the way, but I'm back here to sniff you out as usual Luke.

Anyway I seriously doubt you'll manage to suck anyone in as you've worn it out, and too many here have seen and heard it all before. Why not just try to contribute properly for a change. When you not messing around a lot of the stuff you post is worth reading.

ok its almost 4 am here( yes its a Clue ) and pretty much drunk so I'll give this another go before unsubscbring from the email alerts.

Funny you should mention Scotland as Edinburgh University was in my top 3 choices(I stayed in my own country unfortunately), the city looks like Prague and I love it that one so much.

Is this is a Skywalker reference ? as I doubt you're my father! DAD?! There's as much chances of that being true as there are of me creating this thread so I can paste to myself 3 links. Otherwise no, I have no idea of what or who you're talking about.

You were heading over to Hong Kong or somewhere similar, so I presume you're over there now? How's it going, are you enjoying it? Macau's great. I presume you've spent some time there? Edit. On reflection it may have been China you were moving to. It was one or the other. As you say IP addresses are easily checked if you go off on one!

It must be seriously annoying when you can't figure out how I know so much about you, who the connection is, and how I get my info! Have a good think about it and if you figure it out you'll realise why I'll sniff you out every time. It only took a couple of posts but it's always fun to let it run for a short time.

As I said why not just contribute as you rather than trying to make up characters. Keep the Aughex Monica and don't bother with the second one you introduced. I don't hold any grudges. In fact it's amusing at times until you lose the plot as you invariably do.

Steady on lads.

On topic, Timeform started putting together a prescription service regarding sectional times (nothing groundbreaking, but essentially doing a lot of the leg work required it seemed to me).

I tried to make a go of (manual) sectional times in Ireland on the flat a few years back, but the unreliability of distances/furlong markers was a big impact. This has improved since with guys like Kevin Blake etc flagging it up since. Good in one way, bad in another... the more information available and people tuned in, the more it surely must decrease the edge you have.

One of the highlights of this forum in recent years has been EC1's input on sectionals.

Sectionals themselves are great but it's accurate interpretation of them that's the real key.

What I can't get my head round so far is how the likes of Timeform can come up with accurate mark-ups of certain form.

When I'm compiling my ratings I'm happy to put '+' or '++' next to a figure but only take it into account when the biggest picture starts to emerge. For example if my target rating for a potential winner is 163 but the top rated is 160 and there's a 157++ in the race I'm much more inclined to back the latter. EC1 can help with that kind of stuff, for which I'm really appreciative.
