Latest severe gale warning from the Met Office. Let’s pray Cheltenham escapes the more extreme predictions. There is no way racing can take place with these sort of wind speeds.

“The strongest winds are expected to reach Northern Ireland during Tuesday evening, and then transfer across parts of southwest Scotland, northern England, north Wales and the Midlands during Wednesday. Gusts of 60 to 70 mph are expected with the possibility of 80 mph gusts on exposed coasts and hills. Disruption to transport and power supplies is possible and there may be damage to buildings and trees. This warning will be updated around 1100 on Tuesday 11 March.”

Hopefully this will stay north.

Prestbury Park is in quite a sheltered position, the long lump of Cleeve Hill to the north and north gives it a lot of protection.

It's just as well they didn't site the course on top of Cleeve Hill!

Prospects are indeed a bit better for the Cheltenham area than for further north:

Cheltenham area:
Tuesday:
“Cloudy with rain in the morning, but it should turn drier in the afternoon with some bright spells and scattered showers. Generally windy again with some gales likely at times. Maximum temperature 13 °C.
Updated: 1532 on Mon 10 Mar 2008”

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
“Remaining windy, particularly on Wednesday morning. Wednesday will see sunny spells and occasional showers. However, some rain, perhaps heavy, is likely to spread in during Thursday clearing later on Friday.
Updated: 1532 on Mon 10 Mar 2008”

Some of the hospitality marquees have had to be dismantled, damaged - some firms have pulled out
No great loss so long as they aren't bone fide racing fans :suspect:

Quite relieved I haven't paid a lot to go! - weather will be better later in the week tho, acc weather reports

Wednesday morning sounds foul. The gales should subside by the end of the week but this is due to be replaced with heavy rain.
