For the last week or so I have noticed that the Sky box is turning itself off after a period of time to standby,

I briefly saw a message last night which said something like to stop it being turned off press back up, so I assume it is something Sky have impliment recently, while I see its merits, what happens if you want to record something while you are out

I've also noticed this in the last week. I assume that if you have set a timer that would bring it back from standby.

I record from a dvd recorder (we don't have sky+) so I can't see that turning on the sky box when it comes on although I could be wrong!

I know that Sky+ boxes turn themselves off to standby at night - it's a power-saving feature and I think you can disable it in the settings.

It's a common problem with Sky boxes I'm afraid when they are on the way out. I had to replace mine a few months ago when it kept turning itself off.

I can sort of understand that but I've never seen this message before which made me think it was sky's doing!

found it!

Just had a fiddle with the services button & there has been a new addition to the menu, press services then option 5 Auto Standby, then choose disable

Haven't seen that on there before so I can only assume its new!

The Auto-Standby isn't a new feature, it was put on a few years ago to turn your box off automatically during the night to save power.

I think you have done well for your box to last 8 years so far.

If you've got sky + it still records on standby anyway. If you've not then it's definitely worth the cost of upgrading and it doesn't increase your monthly subscription charge.

Was thinking it was just me as I noticed this too. I have recorded (to video) during the night no problems so it must know when something is recording.

Mine is also one of the older Panasonic models & is coming up for 10 years old!! I want a Sky+ box but am reluctant to pay for one when they seem to be giving them away like chips. I have been told to phone them & say I am thinking of joining V****N & they quickly start offering you things to hold onto you.

Thats the make of ours, had it installed April 2001, haven't had a days trouble with it

I wonder why it has only been turning off over the last week then?

Def not Sky + but have been thinking about getting that, do you have to get it installed or can you do it yourself?

BW, def do that as I rung sky last year & did the same, got 6mths 1/2 price!!

Exactly the same symptoms here Aldaniti, and only been happening recently too. I reckon mine's even older, I had Sky installed when it first began operating and I've had the same box ever since.

Aldaniti, they have to fit an LNB to the dish and run an additional lead from the dish to the box so it's not a simply box replacement.

Mention the words "BT Vision" and listen to the customer service rep fall over themself trying to keep you.

Should be able to blag a price reduction for whatever packages you are on and free internet as well - be sure to ask about connection charges as they sometimes try to sneak this on for existing customers.

Has anybody installed the 'Sky Eye' feature? Would be handy for me but not sure how much goes into the installation etc.
