After numerous requests from Mrs Melendez I eventually got onto my regular Christmas smoked salmon supplier today to put in my order. After a lengthy absence from the phone, where distant guffaws were to be heard, I was informed there were none available, unless I called into the shop where they may be able to dig up something :shrugshouldersinbemusementsmilie:. A 320 mile round trip from Dublin to Foxford for a side (or whole) smoked salmon is just not on.

Can anyone give me a contact name and e-mail address (or phone number) for someone, anywhere in the British Isles, who can provide me with a properly smoked, wild salmon (frozen is ok) before Christmas.

Yours, in desperation,

M.

Not bad, a bit of effort in the description of the smoking, but, sadly, lacks the word "wild" in the description of the salmon.

For over twenty-five years Keith Dunbar has been selecting the very finest salmon from the Hebrides, curing and smoking it traditionally over chips of oak - from used whisky casks. Based in Achiltibuie, beside the magical 'Summer Isles', he knows all there is to know about this culinary alchemy. You and your guests will truly enjoy this, before lunch on buttered brown bread, or as a superlative starter.

Is this a place that it can be naturally assumed that they only deal in wild salmon?

I might be going round the twist, but I have a vague notion that Loch Fyne Fisheries sell smoked wild salmon. They certainly supply it to the Loch Fyne fish restaurants, but if you Google up 'Loch Fyne Fisheries' there may be something about it. Worth a try!

Ian, Melendez is known as 'Mister Millions' to his neighbours. It's probably the matching gold Lexi that give it away a bit, but the gold-leafed Olympic-size heated swimming pool and helipad were the final clues to his wealth. And all from a few winners of Banded Stakes, he says...

I've found some from a place in Cork, Belvelly Smoke House. Apparantly they have a stall at an organic market on Saturday in Temple Bar.

It's interesting that wild smoked salmon is way more expensive on the UK websites than in Ireland. 50% more and upwards.

When I saw the thread title I half thought that it was about some money going south on Beef or Salmon's last race :D

Not if they're ciGAR or pipefish, Ian! Sorry...

If all else fails, Mel, just buy the regular sliced stuff and leave it near a garden bonfire for a couple of hours... tell Mrs Mel it's incredibly rare Mongolian Oak-smoked wild salmon from a tiny smokehouse just outside Ulan Bator. Mm, nice...

So does that mean the lower night clubs' 'speciality act' is now banned from smoking in pubic places? :P

(I realize that many forumites are far too genteel to understand this remark.)
