Have just come back from the annual church carol service - the only time I actually voluntarily set foot inside one - and have to admit to now being more in the right frame of mind to enjoy Christmas. Especially as this year it was a new vicar who went back to proper carols and readings and not some new-fangled crap as in recent years (how the hell they expect one to sing lustily to so-called modern carols, I do not know... ).

It was an excellent service, so sermon, half a dozen proper carols, a blessing, mulled wine and mince pies and then on yer bike...

Spent the afternoon decorating the ranch in anticipation of actually getting into the swing of the Season of Goodwill, so that on my return from said Carol Service, I would be met with twinkling (tasteful) lights and a chrimbo tree. Cool.

So what does it for you?????

Well it is usually the Christingle service on Christmas eve but I am away this year so I dunno really. Humbug!!

Not a lot. The whole thing's so rammed down your throat on radio, tv, in the streets - oh, wait, no! Brighton & Hove, poorboy of the South coast, can't afford to put up any Christmas lights or other festive festoons. Little Worthing and even littler towns and villages, meanwhile, bereft of our dozens of profit-laden superstores who could've chucked a few bob into the B&H Council coffers (as against Councillors' pockets), are bright as the Northern Lights.

I get less and less enthused every year and next year I'm not sending any cards, so HAPPY CHRISTMAS 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 ad infinitum, dear forumites!

Yours,
Festively Unimpressed
Brighton

It's certainly weird being out here at Christmas; when it's sunny & fairly warm it seems so strange to hear Christmas music and the like. Only a couple of days ago I was sat outside in the sun for a long liquid lunch, at around 21 degrees it was great, even caught the sun too! So, nothing has made me feel remotely Christmassy this year, although the drop in temperature of about 25 degrees may well help when I get off the plane.....not looking forward to it at all.

Due to a lack of festive cheer in the Simpson household this season, I forcefed myself a diet of Bing Crosby, It's A Wonderful Life, all that American crap that was on the telly and the annual moan about how guff the telly is over Christmas this weekend.

I feel much more festive now.

HO HO HO.

Putting up the Christmas tree early in the month gets me started.

Having a chocolate Advent calendar helps.

Getting the double issue of the Radio Times and seeing if they're showing any 'real' Christmas films (eg It's A Wonderful Life, The Bishop's Wife, (the original) Miracle on 34th Street).

Getting ready for the staff Christmas do.

Loadsa stuff.

I luvvit all!

This year is the first year I haven't had an advent calender, Mo! :what: In fact the only concession to Christmas in my flat this year is a candle that smells of mulled wine, holly & something else! Just can't be arsed with it this year, must be getting too old.....

WELL its not my best time of the year I am a sun lover and summer appeals to me its far nicer although N/H winter appeals: D ...............

But last Friday I was shopping at a mega TESCO store in Cardiff only popped in for bits and bobs, and they had a school choir there kids about 12ish and while doing my shopping down the other end of store it was nice to hear these carols and I subscribed on the way out by putting monies in the bucket being held by an adult .......... :D

Mo excellent three films just add the Alistair Sim Scrooge and you have the four best Christmas films
