Please forgive my complete and utter ignorance but what is Google Bot? I've noticed it/him/her in the list of members online a number of times.
 
Google is the best search engine on the 'net right now. The Googlebot is Google's indexing software. The Googlebot visits billions of web sites over time and records their contents, which makes them available to search. The Googlebot is very smart and works really well. But, like everyone, it could use a little help from its friends.

When authoring a web site, keep in mind that the Googlebot is software, which means it has a set of capabilities and limitations and algorithms it uses to index content. There are lots of effective ways to trip up the Googlebot and make it impossible for it to index your content. Alternately, the Googlebot can index your site well, and then people will find it when searching for words it contains.

As a web site author, there are a few simple things you can do to help the Googlebot understand your web site as fully as possible.
 
A web spider is a robotic reader of sites sent out by search engines and the like (such as Google, the originator of the one mentioned in this thread) so that they can access and record the data on sites for those people who use their search engine. So, and I haven't tried this, if you Google for, say, "Rooster Booster" it is most likely that some of the hits will refer to our forum.

So, there is nothing sinister about Google's robot - if it didn't visit sites then there would be no Google. And then what would we do?

Swirly if being the board owner you could stop access to this but obviously there's nothing taboo in there so its left to rome around and do what it likes? even the moderators can read all your p/m's and mine if they want to!!............
 
Googlebot caches the pagesand is set as invisible by default, but IPB can recognize Google through http headers.

Googlebot doesn't really see them unless ( I think and stand to be corrected) the administrator allows access but the invision software fools you into thinking it can.
 
Thank f*ck for that! You can't even begin to believe how many laws my PM's break....
 
oh I was not aware of that !! accept my apoligies.......... as I was told by a moderator from TRF that all were able to be viewed on that site so I obviously thought it was akin to this site too?...............
 
No, we can't read PM's Merlin, I promise you - and even if we were able to, I can assure I wouldn't, as I've a lot better things to do and enough personal integrity not to want to, and I am sure my co-mods are of the same mind.

Shame this can't be said of everyone else on here.

I'm sure everyone will be hugely disappointed to discover that TRF appears on the 3rd page of a Rooster Booster search on google. Talking Horses does not appear in the first 19 (even I got bored), and is thus behind such worthy websites as the Peeblesshire News and the Farmers Journal. :confused:
 
I Just noticed Googlebot printing a topic. Why? So it can put it's feet up in front of the fire and peruse it at its leisure?
