We have had two instances in two days of offensive spam on this forum.

Spamming is strictly prohibited by the rules .

I shall ask the other mods/admin to agree that anyone spamming will have their posting ability disabled immediately , be banned and reported to their ISP .

DON'T DO IT

P.S If you see spam please use the report function so we can deal with it asap

What is spam, then? Is it advertising? Is it different from the advertising of racehorse shares on here? And what constitutes 'offensive' spam? I wouldn't know spam if I fell over it, so I'd like an explanation of what it is I'm exhorted to report if I see it.

Spam is often advertising but all advertising is not spam. Spam is a multi-distribution message - a cheap way of getting your message across but at the cost of the forums or chat-rooms who would require extra bandwidth to cope with all the spammers if allowed.

We also forbid advertising - but by businesses. If someone, take me for instance, posts about a partnership in a horse that they are going to run without charging a penny for "management fees" or the like that is not advertising a profit-making enterprise. Again, if someone mentions that, say, Richard Hannon has some shares to offer in a nice two-year-old, they are spreading a message that may well be of interest to other members but are not doing so for personal gain.

Ah, so. Thanks for clearing that up. I've been urging a forum member to mention some available shares in a horse-to-be once it's been sourced, and I didn't know if this now came under the Anti-Spam Act.

Yes a bit of a fine line between some stuff, it wouldn't bother me seeing adverts for horseshares etc being that this is a racing forum, the stuff what annoys me is all the Viagra adverts & such like :o

Aldaniti, if you are getting that sort of stuff it has nothing to do with the forum - you need a good pop-up stopper (NO PUN INTENDED!)

No not getting it on this forum, I've seen people post in other forums advertising it, they join up & post adverts etc
