I was painting outdoors this morning and at 11:40 the sun shone through the clouds and I felt warmth in the air, must be the first time in months - good to be alive!

My grass (lawn grass in case Grasshopper gets excited) is about 9 inches long and has been growing all winter. We have had no winter to speak of in the south of Ireland - constant growth - I'll need a frigging combine to do the first cut.

Probably the only humour for me, arising from the 'cold spell' direct from Siberia, was a BBC weather update when it showed:

Prague -23
Berlin -15
Paris -10
and ...... wait for it ..... Sennybridge -13.

I know many of will tell me the importance of Sennybridge (Population measured in 100's) and its international weather station. But, driving through many times, when at my brothers house I will always now associate this little town with the titans of Europe.

I have had roses and Nemisis all through the winter. Some of my bushes have been budding for over two weeks now and my snow drops, which the cat usually digs up, have been out for a month.
I stop and feed treats to some horses on the way to work and it was definitely late spring like this morning at half past 7.

My ride-on mower is due back from the shop this weekend, after I'd somehow managed to f*ck the steering column and thereafter the cutting blade, as I was doing my Alain Prost number in the garden in November.

I've moved the potting bench away from the south facing elevation of the greenhouse to make room for the cold-frame (going to try and bring earlies on quicker) and will start sowing seeds this weekend.

Hurrah for gardening (or 'gairdening' as we call it roond my way).

I would have thought that in the loft with artificial lighting would be easier that far north.

I have concreted the back garden, and the front, and the side. Gardening done for the year. Hurraah for gardening....or as I call it, sweeping up.

Hot in the summer though, Del Boy?

I gravelled the back and made a patio a few years back. Got sunburnt sitting in the shade on the patio from the reflection off the gravel!

Used to have a very pretty garden at the back - all in pots, until 3 floods and a night-time prowler ruined it all. Haven't bothered since.
