Close enough? He was right out the back in a slowly run race.

This is like the idiots on the ML earlier on saying Strong Suit wasn't badly ridden in the Hungerford. If a horse is held up down the field in a slowly run race it's a massive disadvantage. Especially if a more enterprising jockey nicks a couple of lengths.
