Staking can make a difference between profit and loss over time and it's something I've played around with a few times.
Anyway I've been reading a book where it talks about a backers % Advantage being calculated as
win % - (loss % / avg win odds)
e.g. if a backer has a 40% strike rate and an average win odds of 6/4 then he has a 0% advantage
40-(60/(6/4)) = 40 - 40 = 0
if the backer could then improve the average win odds to 11/4 then has an advantage of
40-(60/(11/4)) = 40 - 21.82 = 18.18%
it then talks about making that the % of your bank to use on each bet, can't say that would be my thing but I produced a quick lookup chart anyway.
