Not looking to start a debate on whether stats have any place in selecting horses, but for those off you that do I think you will find this site quite exhaustive and you may care to bookmark it assuming of course you don't know about it already. There is a link to a justgiving page if you wish to support the site but it's not obligatory and access to all the information is free.

Stat are a bit like Sherlock Holmes examining the crime scene and coming to the conclusion it was a guy who will be born in 5 years time that did it

There is no FULL set of stats that I have ever come across that does not eliminate every horse in the race unless you lie to yourself and manipulate the data to suit yourself.

Try this 83.3% of QMCC winners in the last 30 years were trained in England 16.7% in Ireland

In the last 30 years Paul Nichols has trained 5 winners. Nicky Henderson 4 winners WPM 0

In the last 30 years 73% of winners have been 8yo or older

In the last 30 Years only 8 QMCC winners won the Arkle

Now what chance would you give Douvan 7yo Trained in Ireland By WP Mullins winner of the 2016 Arkle Trophy based on those stats?

If you want to lay him at 8/1 which is about right on those stats let me know :)

Do you ever consider the possibility that the answer is not always black or white but somewhere in the middle?

Agreed Bear, and as DG said he's not looking to start this debate on this thread.

We've done it a million times over anyway and, for those that bother to read related threads, those of us that use them successfully don't use them in isolation.
