It could be, but Sad Saturday might be favourite at this time of the season. My mind is half on the jumps now and I’ve already seen one to start the notebook off.
Letterston Lady won the bumper very convincingly at Newton Abbot yesterday and Sean Bowen struggled to pull her up afterwards. She had won earlier at Worcester in similar fashion and I can’t wait to see how she takes to hurdles.
Anyway, back to the flat today.
Phantom Flight 1:55 Ayr 6/5 atm. From the way he won at York I think he’s a good favourite here despite being up in class. Might save with Royal Champion depending on market.
Queen Me 3:05 Ayr 6/4 atm. Ran on very strongly to go down by a neck in the Lowther at York with the rest lengths adrift. Has the beating of these with that.
Have Secret 4:15 Ayr 6/1 atm. After a noted run at Chester - second favourite and well drawn in 2. Slowly away and soon in last place being pushed to keep up. Still nearly last rounding the final bend and 20/1 in running. Somehow managed to murder the field in the straight and get within a head of catching the runaway winner with the rest 6 lengths behind. That was some performance at Chester, he should have been dead and gone. - he again finished strongly and just got home by a neck last time. Up 8lbs for that, though, which is a worry.
Washraa 2:06 Newmarket 3/1 atm. Ran really well into 3rd at Ascot ast time, although it was ten weeks ago.
Doom 1:31 Newmarket 6/1 atm. Tanlic’s tip and rumours abound about this one. One of those where I would kick myself if she won when unbacked. I have two notebook ones in this, anyway, so would have left alone otherwise.
Finally, I must mention Special Envoy 3:25 Newbury. A very expensive son of Frankel who showed much promise before failing inexplicably at York where he raced in rear and never really threatened to be anywhere else. Just a watch for me this time.
ps: shouldn’t have looked at the Ayr Gold Cup, but just having a crazy bit of fun on Vadream on his handicap debut!
