Did anyone see this last night on Channel 4? A bloke called Morgan Spurlock came up with the idea that he would eat nothing but McDonalds for 30 days and make a film about it whilst recording what happened to him. I can safely say that I will not be running across the road to McDonalds after seeing that - it's pretty much enough to put you off for life! I'm not a great fan of Maccy D's to be honest & rarely eat food from there anyway - was I ever glad about that when I was watching the programme! Watching it did actually make me feel sick anyway - I know Jamie Oliver has done similar with his school lunches but actually watching a bloke put himself through eating the stuff daily was not pleasant. Not only did he put on a lot of weight (25lbs I think it was) the other physical effects it had on him were scary. His cholesterol went through the roof as did the fatty levels of his liver; he also started to get physically ill too. It was a good film; a real eye opener and a sad indication that this is the way life in the Western world (in particular) appears to be heading.

In fairness, if you ate nothing other than big hunks of Tuna steak with chickpeas, wahed down with Orange juice 3 times a day for a month you wouldn't feel the better of it either, despite them being about the healthiest food around. The trick is to get the balance right. Having a MacDonalds once a month won't do you any harm, if incorporated in a properly balanced diet.

Of course you are right, Melendez - although I'd hazard a guess that if you lived on tuna steak, chickpeas & orange juice you wouldn't have to be rushed to hospital with chest pains; or get told by three doctors to stop what you are doing as you are killing yourself; or for your cholesterol or fatty acids in your liver to go up by twenty times their previous level. Of course, having the odd Maccy D's isn't likely to kill you, but it is getting all too common that there are people who eat fast food upwards of 3 times a week - imagine what that would do to you! It's not really surprising then, that obesity levels are rising at a rapid pace - I have always felt that I am overweight (I'm a curvy size 10-12) but the sizes people are getting to now are ridiculous!

I though yer man who had 2 big macs every day as his staple diet was hilarious - he actually knew how many big macs he'd had in the previous year, 760ish.

Yup, he certainly made me laugh!! The count at close of play [of the film] was over 19,000 Big Macs, wasn't it?? Nutter.....

I have to admit, I occasionally have a burger - washed down with their coffee which I really like ! It does makes me cringe when I say how many adults take their very young children in to fast food establishment as it must be so much easier than cooking them something at home. When I say young, I mean children still in nappies! You can only imagine what bigger problems they may be storing up in the future.

I detest the whole McDonalds experience.

- the queuing

- the gormless staff

- the screaming kids

- the gangs of ill-behaved teenagers

- the smell

- the food, which I find revolting

Consequently, I never go there.

Well said. Could not agree more.

You must have been once. :D

There's no hiding place on here for mistakes, Homer!

I find tuna revolting, and I find the fact it's fished at the expense of dolphins, small sharks, and lovable turtles even more so. It mightn't kill you, but its harvest kills tens of thousands of these creatures every year. So much for 'healthy' eating.

That certainly makes two of us, Jon! I cannot abide fish or seafood anyway but there is something about tuna that turns my stomach. I went loopy last week a couple of times as two days in a row I went up to the staff canteen to get a chicken salad sandwich & the dozy Gibbo bitch working in the kitchen liberally smeared my sandwiches with tuna (rendering them uneatable - all I could smell on the sandwiches was bloody tuna - it nearly made me wretch) because she didn't bother wiping her knife inbetween making sandwiches for different people!!! Not only that, she had no gloves on! :teeth: :angy: :angy:

Shad

Victor gives you access to a free canteen at work, and all you can do is moan.

Some of us poor souls have to pay for/make our own sandwiches.

Think yourself lucky, dozy Gibbos or not.

And don't forget all the thousands of albatrosses that are drowned through the newer method of fishing for tuna - long lining.

That's not a racist comment ! Try calling VC bet . if you're in a tax haven off seas you can at least make sure that your staff speak English . Their language skills are terrible .

Jinnyj - yes, you're right. The cans of tuna not fished the old way are now cutely labelled 'dolphin friendly', I see, as a sop to those concerned that so many of these intelligent creatures are drowned. I await any big-fish catch system that can truly boast to not decimate one species at the expense of the other.
