Supreme Being

I know where you're coming from, eric, but more germanely, does anyone believe in sensible urban planning?

What can we honestly expect, when we (as in the human 'we') persist in building - and badly, at that - all over the well-known routes of hurricane and earthquake zones, when we keep deforesting so that mudslides or landslips occur (another one has come and gone, killing many, but totally eclipsed by the Kashmiri event), building on flood plains - even here in supposedly civilized Britain, the government's mad over-housing plan is to build on flood plains here in Sussex! We fly in the face of raw natural energy, against the millions of years of relentless tectonic movement happening a few miles beneath us.

I think 'we' should keep our deities for personal guidance or succour, where belief systems seem to be more effective, than expecting some supreme ruler to wave an ethereal hand against the waves, winds, and wobbles to suit our misjudgments. Let God take care of our spiritual and social direction, if we so desire, but let's use our intelligence to build sensibly and appropriately for the environment in which we live!

Does anyone still believe in a merciful deity when all we seem to get is misery---Tsunamis,Hurricanes and Earthquakes??

:angy: :angy: :angy:
Surely the "merciful deity" is personified in the countless acts of selflessness and charity triggered by such a natural tragedy.

Now if only more humans could opt to put their free will towards improving the greater good...

Quite topical subject, it was discussed by a fella on radio 4 last night, who said lots of similair things as Kri mentions. He went on to give examples throughout history of cities/towns, now being tourist attractions, after being vacated, due to the fact they were sited in a hazadous location. Adding that the USA hasn't really any such ruins, and in a century or so time, New Orleans, San Fransico etc. will be their Pompei, perhaps!
Me personally if there is a great one up there, then I think it maybe his/her (see how pc I'm getting :o ) way of administrating a sort of enforced birth control!
Look at the first Live aid, they fed them and funded a war 1st off, then the next years crops where wiped out with one of the worst rainy seasons on record, the year after the crops were blighted by the biggest locust formation ever heard of!
If anyone comes up with a progamme of enforced castration in the various areas I'm going on about, then you put me down of a fiver straight off!

Dr Josef Mengele's yer man

Seriously now.... talking of this about 4 yrs ago I went to my nephew’s house in Swansea him a consultant and his wife a G-P...

over coffee we discussed the HIV out break in the world, both of them are of the opinion that man will create another Pandemic after AIDS- HIV as been eventually eradicated or a medicine has been found to treat the disease...

Or maybe this bird flue may now cause millions to die? We had BSE in the beef as your all very aware of caused now they say by feeding human beings parts to cattle, (imported from India that’s the last cause I seen on the box)…..

I am not what one would term as a religious sort of person, although, christened a rock cake, along with my children too but non of the family practise religion..

But it’s ominous really if one is confronted with a disaster in your life.. you call on your god!! For help, I think this applies to most people that I have come across so I suppose with me and the others! conformist also and non-conformist we all look for a god to help us....

But when you look what happens in life! You must sometimes wonder if there is a god with all these disasters now going on!! Some being man made!! Makes you wonder if a balance of life is not being brought about to offset the famine and water shortage in these third world countries...

It has also always come to my mind about all these starvations and people and droughts etc in Africa....
Where do they get their intake of energy to copulate and produce masses of children you can't sh..g on an empty stomach ?? Or can you? .

Thanks for that.

Merlin, in biological view it is the other way round.
for reproduction of genes sexual activity (securing the future) is more important than intake of food/drink (securing the present).
as humans are part of nature we will "by nature" choose sex over food if necessary to make a decision between the two.

(and, as you saw from the pictures of Lord H. holidays, there is no age limit to this law )
:D
