We are all adults on here, can someone explain why we can't even say mild swear words like P I S S on here anymore?

The system in place here is just fine as it is.
Some of us have sensitivities regarding coarse language irrespective of the degree of "mildness" of it.

And I, of course, will second that. With respect GS, I think swearing is rather juvenile language, rather than "adult."

How do you know everyone is an adult? Plus the boards are open to viewing for non members.
Any reason why, as an adult, people feel the need to swear on an internet forum about horse racing?

I just think it's unnecessary censorship. You can swear like a docker on Twitter, which is essentially your competitor nowadays and plenty of websites open to non members contain swearing. If I go and discuss racing in the pub with people, there will be swearing. This is no different.

A bit of swearing here and there never hurt anyone and occasionally it adds effect to a point IMO.

and it isnt exactly hard to get round the filter, as evidenced in this thread, and the avoidance rule has never been enforced.
Problem is where do you draw the line, a lot of people, especially women, hate the c word, do we allow it cos the lads say it down the pub? The filters there it gets bypassed every day, if someone complains I can edit the post within the rules, if not, it gets left.
I hear racist jibes, jokes and plenty of other stuff in the pub that people would be up in arms about if they were posted on here, there has to be a line, thats all.

have you never had a conversation with me, Hamm or DO?..enough to make anyone swear i'd think:)

I just read your posts and start punching the fcuk out of my keyboard, I usually get through 8 a day :D

Fair dos, I'm just generally against censorship and thought not being able to say "píss it" down was a bit OTT.

I know but its the old 'whats fine by some isn't for others' situation isnt it? I'm not bothered in the slightest by swearing but I presume others are and tbh before I put the filter in I did get the odd complaint. It just seems easier to blank out obvious swear words, even if its auto replaced by stars, people tend to know what you're saying :)

No need at all re Horse Racing, but with the football threads all filters should be off:D

Except for Clive's posts!!

I think any cnut that fukcing swears on a batsarting forum should be banned to fcuk.

I'm with DD, though. It really isn't necessary in any situation. When it's done for comic effect it can be OK but really what is the point of it.

I can swear with the best of them but prefer not to (usually) but there should be zero tolerance on the forum towards racism.

(Sits back in wait for the usual suspects...)

I just think of it as language. It only started to be seen as distasteful in the Victorian era.

Clivex, for example, is used repeatedly by Chaucer and also by Shakespeare.*

Pr*ck was considered to be perfectly acceptable amongst all members of society until the Victorian era.

We've managed to review other aspects of language quite successfully over the millennia and have evolved it into something which can enable communication. If swearing assists the communication process in some way, why on earth would we consider it juvenile to do so?

no typo - clivex is a synonym for the other "C" word.

I saw Julius ceaser at the globe this week and didnt get a mention, so you are wrong there

A few years ago I accused a few of the ladies on here of being hormonal and the response was fairly lively.
