Apologies because I know I have asked this before but I'm not sure how to access previous replies.

I'm off to Spain for a month, leaving a week on Monday. I'd like to be able to access my betting accounts while there but am usually blocked because I'm abroad.

Will a VPN get round this? If so, any advice on which to use? Are any free?

Anything I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance.

M.

I've used one called Bitdefender over the last few years without any problems. Only to access BF, Betvictor, WH, B365 but logically all others should be OK.

It's not free and I haven't used a free one for about 5 years, so don't know whether there are any issues with them (and there will be several to choose from that are probably OK, just go search 'free VPN for mobile/laptop/iphone etc etc). I would imagine the free ones make their money by showing ads or they have limited functionality and you soon realise you need the paid version..

But looks like Bitdefender do theirs for a month for £6 (or you can just sign for a year at a reduced monthly rate of £2.50 if you pay the 12 months up front)...

I've followed Chaumi's advice. Very effective and a simple install process too. Thanks C.

What part of Spain, DO?

I've used Super VPN which is free with no bother abroad.

I tried to go via this route but have hit problems.

As far as I know I followed the instructions correctly but ended up with this on-screen message, which I don't uhnderstand because I'm online as I'm doing this:

That message is suggesting that at the point of trying to download you didn't have a broadband connection, DO. Obviously, if you can/could connect to other websites at the time and/or it's persistent, then it's not that and may be something on the distant end.

Maybe I'm not sorted after all. I tried to access the W Hill site and they recognised that I was using a 'data centre' which they don't allow.

Edit - managed to get a bet on via B365 so maybe some restrictions are tighter than others.

Well I tried it with Bitdefender, connecting to a Manchester IP/data centre (obviously while in the UK anyway)...and sure enough WH wouldn't accept it. Seems they may have 'improved' their systems. I got the same message you did.

B3 have a much wider global reach than most other bookies anyway, so they're not a 'good' example. But at least you have a way of getting something on.

I was in Valencia back last Feb and pretty sure I got on to both BF and WH (on a mobile) without even using a VPN. That could have changed though in the interim.

Another wee issue has arisen since yesterday so I'm assuming it isn't just a coincidence.

I travel by bus whenever possible and have a document with URLs for the timetables I need. They are underlined and when I press 'ctrl' and click on the text it takes me to the web page.

Since yesterday when I've been trying this I'm getting error messages.

Any easy fixes?

If you're still connected to the SuperVPN VPN, it's possible it doesn't like the URLs for some reason, although that would be odd.

Can you post one of the URLs in here and let's see if I can reach it? Just copy it from the URL bar at the top (assuming you're on laptop) and paste in here - it should automatically turn into a clickable link.

Or just attach the doc.

OK yeah I have no problem reaching that.

And I can see from the image, it doesn't look like you're going to the URL on the internet when you control/click. It's trying to open a file on your computer, that's why you get the message.

Try it with the VPN disabled (if you haven't already and know how to disable). That'll prove whether it's the VPN.

If that's no good, I'll create a doc with links and send it to you to try. Maybe your doc has got corrupted.

I have the VPN switched off. Is that it disabled? If so, that's what I've been trying.

The doc itself was working yesterday morning before I went to the PC shop.

Appreciate the help, chaumi.

Yes disabled = switched off. Try the link in this doc (if you can open it). If it works, I'll add the others and send again. If it doesn't, I'll pm you an email address and you can send me yours, I'll take a look at it and see if anything looks wrong.

OK, then it does indicate they (the IT guys) did something (on the computer/laptop) to make the VPN work.

Or somehow what they did has changed the way that links in a doc operate (ie they now try to open a file on the device rather than open a link via a browser).

Try this...

If a link in a Word document opens as a file, you can try these steps to change your file open preferences:

Go to File > Options > Advanced > File Open Preference
Select either Desktop or Browser from the dropdown menu (in other words, it should show 'browser' already)

**an option...

In theory you could forget the doc, and we just create shortcuts to the timetables you want. So you would open the browser and the links would be there for you to click. I know it works on Chrome and Edge, what browser do you use?
