I emailed myself Word documents from work as I needed to work on them over the weekend (sacrificing stydying for Cheltenham in the process!) but they've arrived as jpg files which I don't seem to be able to access.

Any idea how it could have happened or how I can access them?

Thanks in advance.

Try this:

1. Save the files from the email to somewhere on your computer (but don't try and open them)
2. Open Microsoft Word from it's icon or the start menu
3. File > Open and navigate to where you saved the files.
4. Select open

What happens?

I tried the following, BM:

I right-clicked on the attached file(s)
I selected 'Save target as...'

I got the message: 'Internet Explorer cannot download. No such interface supported.'

There are other attachment icons that look the same as the ones I get in work, ie they use 'paper clip' icons. I can't remember what I did but I got what looked like a photo editing page with a picture of a paper clip icon.

It sounds like an Internet Explorer problem. Are you using IE7?

If it is the issue that I suspect then there is a known fix to register a couple of DLLs but I don't know how confident you are to do this. It might be worth waiting to see if anyone else has a solution.

In the meantime, can you try either of the following:

1. Trying to save the documents without right clicking (left clicking? double-clicking?)
2. Try to access your emails through a different browser (i.e. firefox)

You can import it into a program that uses OCR (optical character recognition) it will scan the image for characters it can recognize and convert them to text,.Most scanners come with OCR software, adobe acrobat has an OCR feature as well.
