I have recently bought an LCD television. It had a problem in that it kept turning itself on at 3am when it was left on standby. I exchanged it and the replacement has the same problem, Could this be related to my freeview box i.e. does it update at this time every morning. There is a sleep timer but it is de-activated so this should not be affecting this. the technicak people at woolworths are stumped, any ideas would be welcome

3am sounds like the time that EPGs (Electronic Programme Guides) update. On some models this results in the powering down on the digital receiver.

Does your LCD TV have built in freeview?

If not then I guess it is something strange happening with the signal being passed through the SCART cable from your freeview box. No idea what though.

I also have this problem, though mine is just a standard TV with no digital receiver, it turns itself off when I've been watching TV for a while, and turns itself on after a while. I'm sure it hasn't been going since I bought it mind, only fairly recently (a year or so).

It may be a similar problem, just posting this to see if it narrows down the list of options...

Ali - sounds like a classic case of over-heating; does it seem unsually warm, or is it close to any heat sources (radiators?) or in a cabinet that might be limiting airflow?

Cheers, but it doesn't feel hot and it's been on for a few hours, it's in the coldest room in the house and there's nothing around it that could limit airflow.

i have solved the problem by putting on the child lock, it can now only be turned on by using the remote control, a full nights sleep was had last night, hurray!!!

i think youve jsut unearthed a problem of mine. I have sky in my bedroom & at roughly 3am every morning the fan comes on & makes a noise loud enough to wake me up. the onyl way to stop it is to pull the scart lead out at night. does anyone else know how i can stop it without removing scart lead?

There is usually a way within the menu system to change the EPG update time - to a more suitable time.

There is no turn off switch on the tele itself, only a standby button which had the same problems. I tried unplugging it but it did not hold the channels tuned in so it was inconvenient to re-tune every day
