I've been trying to access my account details at Ladbrokes.com but none of the small links open, not even the one to show my balance or to seek 'help'. When I right click on the link and try 'open in new window', the new window appears but I get the 'page unavailable' message.

I once reported a similar problem at SportingOdds on here and one or two wizzes on here got me round it but nothing seems to be helping at ladbrokes.

a) How do I do that (idiot-proof instructions)?
b ) Doesn't it leave my PC open to attack?

You can usually disable the firewall by right clicking the icon in the bottom right of your screen. It's worth a try to see if it is the firewall thats blocking you getting access.
You will of course be open to attack as you say but only for the time it takes you to check if you can get onto the site.
If it is the firewall then you will need to grant access to the site/s that you cannot get onto.

Cheers, Trig. Is the icon the little yellow and black Norton icon?

Co-incidentally, I tried accessing Ladbrokes a few moments ago and got in no bother. Any idea why circumstances would change without me doing anything?

Footnote: It turns out I had the foresight to make my bet on Straw Bear EW (12/1) so the day wasn't a complete wipeout
