I recently upgraded to AVG 8. During the process, I was asked if I wanted to make Yahoo my home page. I said no. Since AVG was installed, my previous home page - the one that comes up when you first connect to the internet - hasn't come up. All I get is a 'Can't find...' my previous home page (news.bbc.co.uk). I've tried clicking on the dropdown menu at the home icon and opted for 'add or change' and it works while I'm online but as soon as I disconnect and later re-connect, the 'Can't find...' screen comes up.

Any ideas on how I can get the BBC page to appear straight away?

DO, are you using IE or firefox? Either way, if you click on tools then options, you should be able to reset the homepage back to the BBC.

right click internet explorer on your desktop, select properties, incert the homepage you wish into the 'homepage' box, click apply down the bottom. Does this work.

Open Internet Explorer and go to "Tools" in the menu. Click on "Internet Options" then in the "general" tab you can change your homepage back to the one you had either by clicking the "Default" button or by typing it in.

How brave are you feeling Maurice ?

Whatever you do set a restore point in Windows before making any changes.

Two options

Uninstall AVG (and I admit I don't know how easy this is, I do know Norton is an effin nightmare to uninstall and this may be the same)

Load this freeware which prevents your haomepage being changed

http://www.pjwalczak.com/spguard/

and then reinstall AVG

or

edit your registry by doing this but be very careful

In Regedit, navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel

In the right-hand pane, right-click the "HomePage" value, then select Modify. Change it to: 00 00 00 00

Also change either or these to zero 0 instead of 1 if present:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] - DWORD "NoSetHomePage"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions] - DWORD "NoSetHomePage"=dword:00000001

If you don't have this key, browse to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

and in the right hand pane, double click "Local Page" and set equal to "C:\WINDOWS\System\blank.htm" (no quotes) which will hopefully set your Home Page to blank and then allow you to subsequently modify it using Internet Options.

Exit regedit and reboot.

When you reboot, you should be able to change the home page again.

Have you had a look in the anti-virus settings to see if you can turn something off that will allow the page to show.
