When I click on links within postings/articles, on this site and on others, nothing happens, it's been like this for about a week.

It's ok if I click on links in eg newspaper sites where I can click on "politics" or "sport", so it's not a general "clicking problem".

Any idea why this might be happening, and what could put it right?

Yes, Windows xp, haven't installed anything recently so "it's not me guv"! It's just started doing it over the last week.

The only way I can get round it it is to right click on it, copy the properties, and then paste onto the top of the sreen - bit of a nuisance!

If you're using Internat Explorer, try clearing your Temporary Internet Files - it starts doing funny things when it gets too big.

Do this mate I am certain it will resolve your problem being that you’re on X-P...

Go to the (MY COMPUTER) icon on your desktop left click it to open it, select your main hard drive usually © right click and it will give you a drop down menu choose (PROPERTIES it’s the last one on the list) right click on it to open it up then select (TOOLS) 2nd option on the top row, then choose (CHECK NOW) left click this to open it, put a tick in each box by left clicking.. you then get a CHECKING HARD DISK .....

You need then to close down your P-C and restart it ...depending on the state of your hard disk Ven it may take over ½ half an hour to defrag it this way, but it will clean up any on going problems....if not come back, good luck.............

Which version IE Venusian?

From within IE try some variation of:

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Restore Advanced Settings

If no joy then try some variation of:

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset...

Thank you all for your suggestions, embracing a wide spread of technical sophistication.

Now cured! I've just tried downloading the latest version of Java from the Sun site, and this seems to have done the trick.
