I can't access any betting sites.

This is only since I downloaded antivirus/firewall stuff.

Is this coincidental? If not, how do I correct it?

I can't understand it but it seems OK now

The annoying thing was, I was trying to bet Foxhaven

I haven't chagned my security setting

Now I can access the sites via my favourites list but not via the links at the top of the betting tables at oddschecker

Is one of the settings stopping Internet Explorer (or whatever your browser is) opening new windows?

Also I have just checked, and Oddschecker launches the new window using JavaScript. Check your settings that this hasn't been disabled somehow.

I downloaded a 15-day trial of Zone Alarm Security Suite. I've just checked about the firewall and sure enough it was disabled. I don't know how that happened as it was on when I checked it earlier

MO out of choice I would certainly keep X/P'S FIREWALL and delete the other one go into control panel select windows FIREWALL.. then open it and choose general and make sure its ticked as on ...

then choose and go to exceptions you can then add or delete which programmes you don't want it to work on i.e. your betting account as they are deemed as being safe and you should not get a problem from this sort of sight... o/k .............

I'm not following you re the exceptions, Merlin. How do I know which programs I'm allowing as exceptions?

In any event, I don't see why/how this is happening

Could it be because I'm blocking all pop-ups?

at the top of the page in WINDOWS FIREWALL you have 3 choices choose the middle one EXCEPTIONS...

open it check if your betting account name has a tick against it?? if it has its o/k if not tick the box so its excempted from firewall protection in other words making your connection easy with reduced security as stated... a sight such as this is pretty safe o/k MO ;)

p.s you are on X/P I hope???????????

you can actually read what it says between the three top choices and the part you need to tick or delete a box ......

I've got umpteen betting accounts which I can access via my favourites so I don't see how that can be the issue, or am I being stupid?

It's when I click on the bookie's title at the top of the odds tables at oddschecker that I can't get further, nor if I click on the actual price of the horse.

MO do as I said it may just be that one account that's just causing the problem owing to you and them!!!!(some sights vary) having too much security on you can add or delete any programme you recieve on line via this EXCEPTIONS page thats why its on there.......goodnight let me know how you get on in the morning......... ;)

Mo,

Access betfair.com, pick a market that is open, click on one of the selection's names. i.e. K Fallon for Goodwood Top Jockey.

Does a popup window appear showing the market history? If not then the problem is definitely with Javascript.

Mo, it is DEFINITELY your settings stopping new windows being opened. What you need to do, is when you click on the link to a betting site on oddschecker, hold down the SHIFT key as you do. This will allow the new window to open.

That's taken me a step forward, Dave. The window opens but I get a 'Cannot display page' message

Maurice, if you go to Tools->Internet Options in Internet Explorer, and go the the Privacy tab, is there a section at the bottom for blocking popups?

There was. I've unchecked it and am off to see if it works although I don't want bombarded with unwanted ones.

It must be Zone Alarm doing the popup blocking then - is there a setting in the Zone Alarm options to disable it's popup blocker?

Edit: Zone Alarm calls it Ad Blocking, should be configurable through the Privacy options.

Two things Mo. Firstly, when in oddschecker, if you click on a link to one of the sites, although it doesn't open the new page, you should see top left ( just below the address bar I think _ a little message come up saying popup blocked, and it gives you the option to allow popups from this site.
The new message you get now when the window does open up is down to a java error. There is a setting for java somewhere within internet options > tools, but to get around this, try going to the sporting life's site. If you see the ticker giving info along the top, it should have enabled java, and then when you go back to oddschecker, it should then work.

That pop-up message has not appeared since I installed ZA.

At the SL site the ticker is working fine :what:
