Just saw Ted on RTV sporting a baseball cap with creations attached to remember Rince Ri, Papillon, Seabass and Commanche Court.
I must get a cap to remember Apache Gold, Camira, In Bloom and Jazzaway.
What would your four horses be ?

As recall I was about 12 when Specify won the GN. I had asked my Dad to put a shilling each way on him. Da second guessed me and kept the two bob in his pocket. He came home and paid out more money than I ever had. It was only years later he told me what had happened and how it had screwed his petrol money that week. I felt no sympathy.

Yes. I would have been 15. Right now I can't remember why but I selected Specify a day or so before the race (maybe had seen it run well earlier in the season) and told the whole family I'd be backing it (probably a shilling, as I'd still have been calling it, each-way. I remember my father then saying he's already backed it ante-post at 33/1. He also had it in an each-way double with with Lincoln winner Double Cream (sp 33/1 but I think he had 33s or 40s). Next thing I remember is everybody else in the family saying they wanted to back it too so the entire household (including the sixpence ews my father put on for the wee brother and sister) was on Specify. What a day that was for the family. Truly unforgettable.

A client of mine arranged to go to Grand National that year on Dublin- Liverpool ferry, meeting up on O'Connell street .
One man waited outside Cleary's department store while the other waited across the road outside the GPO.
They never met so went home.
As my man said, a tip in itself as they should have specified where they would meet.

I adored her. Always felt she was very underrated. Two Group races in the same week at Royal Ascot including breaking the track record, a Brigadier Gerard S. and a Japan Cup becoming the first European trained winner. Not a bad CV.

She danced every dance.
