Tesco Healthy Eating

I've decided to try and lose a bit of weight, caught a look in the mirror and im carrying some extra timber that would be good to lose

I took out a 6-wk membership to the local gym/health suite on Monday. Used it on Wednesday and am still sore this morning. I might use the sauna and spa bath over the weekend but won't use the gym until Monday by which time I should avoid the 'bounce'.

I've pretty much given up on diets as such since I have a naturally big appetite and slow metabolic rate so I need to burn off the calories rather than avoid them.

However, I haven't had a beer since last Friday and have cut out snacking during the day. I've also limited myself to a slice of bread and jam for breakfast since I'm on holiday and beans on toast (no butter) for lunch.

Normally, I'd treat myself to a pizza (9" chicken) for dinner on a Friday but will probably halve a Chinese takeaway meal with one of the family tonight. I reckon that will just about halve my calorie intake and I'll probably cut down to two beers instead of four or five later on.

The early signs aren't bad. According to the bathroom scales yesterday morning I was 5lbs lighter than the same time a fortnight ago. If I can do that for six weeks I'll have shed the best part of a stone without really trying.

Chinesers aren't the best idea if you are trying to lose weight. But you are entitled to treat yourself every now and again.

Exercising is the best thing to lose weight in my view. It will also make you live longer and make you happier.

I forgot to add that you should weigh yourself at the same time every day; preferably first thing in the morning after your dump and slash.

This will avoid you getting uberexcited or despondent when there is nothing of note happening to your body.

I checked a jar of sweet & sour sauce and that seems pretty low in fat and calories. Also, I can't imagine something bland like chicken & pineapple being high in fat or calories. And we tend to share a portion of rice (boiled) between two of us anyway.

As you say, these are once-a-week treats only in any case.

Another tip: Try not to weigh your self everyday either. Once a week is ideal or twice if you must. Like BtB says, dieting plus exercise will help shift those pounds, and if you hate the idea of a workout in a gym, remember, 20 minutes a day (or more) power walking is perfect and you will soon see the benefits. The important thing is to decide what "treats" you like and keep them in moderation, so whether it's chocolate (but those kids treat size and have 3/4) or a chinese or indian just think sensibly about where you can save some calories. ie. avoid nan bread and anything in a rich sauce. There is no point dieting if you can't have treats! shrug:: Same with alcohol. If you fancy a drink, try a short with diet coke or slim line tonic. If you want to have a pint, have a pint of diet coke. You will be amazed at how many calories there are in beer and lager and how soon the pounds will disappear.

Keep up the dieting and keep us posted of your progress! :)

I tend to weigh myself every Friday morning after my pee. I don't usually dump till mid-morning. I tend to eat plenty at weekends and ease off during the week so I'm usually at my lightest on a Friday morning.

I reckon taking it easy at the weekend and easing off the beer will help a lot but I also think regular exercise is very important. I love the look on the students' faces when they see me and my corporation lining up against them for the football on a Friday afternoon. It's almost as if they're hoping one of them has 999 on quick-dial on their phone.

However, I've been finding it taking longer to recover from a hard game without exercising in between.

We play 5 a side after school too but not against students in case things get a bit tasty. We invite them back 2 years and more after leaving.

I love playing the students. They're all effort and no knowledge. They strut their fancy tricks and fall over when you go near them.
