Talking Horses Ante Post competition rules and conditions

1. The competition will open for entries on Tuesday 1st November 2016 and close at midnight on Tuesday 28[SUP]th[/SUP] February 2017.

2. Two prizes will be awarded, one of £100 (sponsored by Grasshopper) plus the Alan Morgan trophy (donated by Tout Seul) to the person whose bets generate the most winnings, and one of £50 (sponsored by Viking) to the person whose portfolio has the highest notional value on 1[SUP]st[/SUP] March 2017.

3. Participants will have a separate bank for each month of the competition as follows:

November - £1000
December - £1000
January - £1000
February - £2000

4. The bank for each month can only be used during the month to which it refers.

5. Bets can be placed on the ante post market for any race at the Cheltenham Festival with any of the following “allowed” bookmakers whose odds are displayed on oddschecker.com. No other bookmaker or any exchange will form part of the competition.

bet365
Skybet
Bet Star
Boylesports
Betfred
sportingbet
Betvictor
PaddyPower
StanJames
888sport
Ladbrokes
WilliamHill
Betfair sportsbook
betway
RaceBets
32Red

6. Only single or each way bets, including bets on a horse "to win any Festival race” or “betting without a named horse” will be accepted and as long as they are displayed on Oddschecker. The competition organisers reserve the right to refuse bets in cases where the advertised price is blatantly out of sync with other bookmakers and is probably displayed in error although if it can be proved the price was genuinely available it will subsequently be accepted. NRNB, Multiple bets and other special bets which relate to more than one race do not form part of this competition. A “thanks” at the bottom of each post is an indicator that one of the organisers (NewApproach, Grey or Diamond Geezer) has checked the bet and that it will be recorded.

7. The place part of each-way bets will be settled at ¼ odds regardless of place terms offered by any bookmaker.

8. The minimum bet size is £250 win or £125 each way in November, December and January and £500 win or £250 each way in February.

9. The maximum cumulative amount allowed on any one horse in any one race is £1,500. Bets on a horse in the "to win any festival race" and/or “betting without a named horse or fav” market count towards this maximum.

10. Once a bet has been submitted it cannot be cancelled or changed unless the rules demand it

edit Dec 2nd 2016 to include "cancelled" as agreed by NewApproach, Grey and Diamond Geezer

11. The winner of the main prize will be the person whose final portfolio of bets generates the highest winnings.

12. The secondary prize will go to the portfolio which at 7.30pm on 1st March 2017 has the highest 'notional value'. This is the total sum one would need to wager, taking the best available odds at 7.30PM on 1st March 2017, to achieve the same potential winnings as the bets in the portfolio. (In simpler terms, bets on horses whose odds shorten during the winter gain value, while bets on drifters lose value).

13. The Ante Post competition, as in previous years, will be run by NewApproach with the help of Grey who monitors ante post prices along with Diamond Geezer who also helps with any further administration or back up. The organisers will have the right to clarify, modify or add to the rules as they deem appropriate.

14. Any disputes, the decision of NewApproach and Grey will be final.

There will be four monthly threads (November, December, January & February) containing a link to oddschecker.com posted in the main body of the Horse Racing Forum on the last day of the preceding month, please use these for your virtual wagers as of 12.01am (UK time) on the first day of each month.

PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY VIRTUAL BETS ON THIS THREAD WHICH IS FOR REFERENCE ONLY.

The Ante Post competition will also count towards the Winter Competition, devised and sponsored by Grey, for which there is a prize of £100 to the player with the best combined performance in this and the Ten To Follow competition. Even if you do not intend to enter the Ten To Follow competition, this does not preclude you entering this one, all are welcome.
