6:06

Del Boy:*

Grasshopper:*

6:07

Grasshopper:*
I'll allow Hendo the winner of the first two, and no more
*
6:07

trudij:*
oi...
*
6:07

On*The*Bridle:*
Hamm is taking a stroll down by the Seine with some French trollop...
*
6:08

Comment From michael_o*
Hi folks.I'm not much of a tipster so I'll just absorb all the words of wisdom from the learned and distinguished forumites.
*
6:08

Steve T:*
Yeah, I like Kid Cassidy too! Didn't realise he now train Montbazon though....
*
6:08

betsmate:*
Hi Michael
*
6:08

On*The*Bridle:*
Anything wins the first - unbelievably tough..
*
6:08

trudij:*
Come and share my cocktails Michael_o :)
*
6:08

Grasshopper:*
agreed......
*
6:08

betsmate:*
Hold yer horses ;)
*
6:08

Del Boy:*
The Brady Bunch have a couple over in stratford tomorrow for the traditional cheltenham bank builder....
*
6:09

On*The*Bridle:*
Traditional pre Cheltenhan hole opener more like..
*
6:09

Grasshopper:*
:-)
*
6:09

Del Boy:*
I think Charlie Longsten will have a good festival and has a good chance in the first.
*
6:09

betsmate:*
Ok let's get this show on the road... *Format is simple. I post the name of the race, you lot tell me what wins!
*
6:09

betsmate:*
1:30 William Hill Supreme Novices´ Hurdle Grade 1 Cl1 2m110y
Darlan (5.5) , Steps To Freedom (8.5) , Cinders And Ashes (9) , Galileos Choice (9) , Montbazon (11) , Midnight Game (12) , Tetlami (15) , Trifolium (15) , Colour Squadron (17) , Prospect Wells (21) , Sous Les Cieux (21) , Vulcanite (21) , Felix Yonger (26) , Make Your Mark (26) , Monksland (26) , Agent Archie (34) , Allure Of Illusion (34) , Dylan Ross (34) , Molotof (34) , Hinterland (41) - Others 51 or more
*
6:10

Comment From SlimChance (cpt)*
Darlan gets run over.
*
6:10

trudij:*
Cinders and Ashes. dont know why, i just think it will.
*
6:10

Grasshopper:*
I don't like any of them, but somehow ended up backing Darlan having left it well alone for 5 months
*
6:10

On*The*Bridle:*
No 10/1 left on Montbazon after Kings's comments today
*
6:10

michael_o:*
Couldn't agree more. Really fancy Vulcanite for a place in the first.
*
6:10

Del Boy:*
I like Galileos Choice but am worried hes been so lightly raced.
*
6:10

Grasshopper:*
I'm not confident, but - worries about the track apart - I think he could run well
*
6:11

Comment From whitehorse*
Galileos Choice
*
6:11

Steve T:*
Montbazon improvng with every race, has an engine & can battle, do for me.
*
6:11

On*The*Bridle:*
Gun to the head Galliloe's or Cinders & Ashes. really like the way GC jumped the last day
*
6:12

Del Boy:*
allure of illusion was supposed to be mullins bumper horse last year, has been off for a while but they seem to be swaying to running him in this and he could be one at a price to spring a surprise.
*
6:12

On*The*Bridle:*
have you had a look at the distances bets Steve T
*
6:12

Steve T:*
Interesting that JP bought Colour Squadron would save on that one
*
6:13

Grasshopper:*
Could be an Artic Kinsman year...........I might dabble in a couple of outers, but pretty keen to get out of this one within minimal scratches
*
6:13

Steve T:*
Don't want to get into trouble with the agenda - special bets at the end (if iPhone battery lasts...)
*
6:13

betsmate:*
Ok, very good. Moving on...
2:05 Racing Post Arkle Challenge Trophy Chase Grade 1 Cl1 2m
Sprinter Sacre (1.91) , Al Ferof (3.5) , Cue Card (7) , Menorah (10) , Blackstairmountain (17) , Cristal Bonus (21) , Kid Cassidy (34) , Astracad (67) , Foildubh (81) , Nearest The Pin (81)
*
6:13

On*The*Bridle:*
Too many to like in the race - small bets and wait for the MONSTER in the next
*
6:14

Comment From SlimChance (cpt)*
Speaking of Kid Cassidy. Hes a good example of the lengths that icey tenticals of JP McManus will go too to get a horse handicapper. Not many will use electrocution
*
6:14

On*The*Bridle:*
True Captian Hook true - am I your Smee
*
6:14

SlimChance (cpt):*
Galileo's Chiice has. Even backed by the trainer. Is that a positive or a negative?
*
6:14

Steve T:*
but it's worked! I like KC for a place if he runs in this.
*
6:15

Del Boy:*
weld has it backed slim he has?
*
6:15

Grasshopper:*
9/10 could end-up looking like a gift. On balance, I think course worries are overplayed, and whilst Al Ferof sets a decent standard, I will be pretty-much amazed if Sacre is beaten. He will bury them with his jumping, even if he is on shaky grounds stamina-wise
*
6:15

Comment From JamesRB*
think NJH said he's leaning toward grand annual for KC
*
6:15

SlimChance (cpt):*
The market move on Darlan was all down to JP. How Timeform has him top rated in the race is beyond me
*
6:15

trudij:*
SS aside, I reckon Menorah is a decent place chance. Cant have CC, whatever my tyre fitter yesterday tried to make me agree.... SS is amazing - hill won be a problem IMO
*
6:15

On*The*Bridle:*
Negative by all acounts - he even tried to get in to longer
*
6:16

SlimChance (cpt):*
Midnight Game is another that will be run over
*
6:16

On*The*Bridle:*
Sacre is a monster monster bet of the week
*
6:16

Grasshopper:*
I can't have Menorah.
*
6:16

betsmate:*
So in a word (or two), what wins?
*
6:16

Steve T:*
Menorah will be lucky to complete, poor jumper and at pace round Cheltenham? Place lay
*
6:16

Del Boy:*
If Sprinter Sacre is beaten I will be absolutely gutted and it could well ruin my week.
*
6:16

On*The*Bridle:*
SPRINTER SACRE gone bye...
*
6:17

Grasshopper:*
Jolly can't get beaten, Martin
*
6:17

trudij:*
thing is - to beat SS they would all have to start off now.
*
6:17

betsmate:*
Agreed...

2:40 JLT Specialty Handicap Chase Grade 3 Cl1 3m110y
The Package (7) , Hold On Julio (7.5) , Quantitativeeasing (8) , Tullamore Dew (13) , Baile Anrai (17) , Our Mick (17) , Time For Rupert (17) , Zarrafakt (17) , Cappa Bleu (21) , Magnanimity (21) , Mossley (21) , Walkon (21) , Blenheim Brook (26) , Cannington Brook (26) , Divers (26) , Fruity ORooney (26) , Hectors Choice (26) , Leanne (26) , Alfie Sherrin (34) , Arbor Supreme (34) - Others 34 or more
*
6:17

trudij:*
and even then they will struggle
*
6:17

Steve T:*
1,2 for Nicky if KC runs
*
6:17

betsmate:*
handicap time!
*
6:17

SlimChance (cpt):*
Arkle us simple. Go to a few Paddy Power shops and back the field to return a grand. Free bullet at a 350+ profit if the fav is beat
*
6:17

Comment From Trackside*
Menorah won't come up the hill in a truly run race.
*
6:18

Comment From Trackside*
Menorah won't come up the hill off a strong gallop.
*
6:18

michael_o:*
Hope Sprinter Sacre annihaltes this field and shows he's a superstar
*
6:18

trudij:*
Long as Divers gets beat I dont care - would love Quantitiveeasing to win but first part of this sentence is the important bit ;)
*
6:18

Grasshopper:*
I still like Hold On Julio in the handicap chase. He's progressive, and he's been laid out for it.
*
6:18

On*The*Bridle:*
No 16/1 left Our Mick... good EW poke in this
*
6:18

Del Boy:*
few bob on Mossley in this one most likely but havent looked into it yet.
*
6:18

SlimChance (cpt):*
Anyone who's really into the fav should take some 7/1 for nexts year QM
*
6:19

On*The*Bridle:*
You seem to a race behind Hook
*
6:20

betsmate:*
Or he knows something about the package that we don't.
*
6:20

Trackside:*
A few apparent shrewdies seem to have been waiting years on that Tullamore Dew to land a big handicap; is this the one?
*
6:20

Steve T:*
what Grasshopper said, could start very short
*
6:20

SlimChance (cpt):*
Clever money for Blenheim Brook. If JP backs QE (which he will) he will end up 7/2
*
6:21

betsmate:*
let's get on to the big one for Tuesday then.
*
6:21

betsmate:*
3:20 Stan James Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy Grade 1 Cl1 2m110y

*
6:21

SlimChance (cpt):*
Hold On Julio on the drift of late? Jumping concerns?
*
6:21

whitehorse:*
HF walks it
*
6:21

On*The*Bridle:*
HF is the one surely...
*
6:21

SlimChance (cpt):*
I'm on an iPhone. Can't keep up!
*
6:22

betsmate:*
What comes second?
*
6:22

Steve T:*
Hurricane Fly - Rock on Ruby - Oscar tcast
*
6:22

Grasshopper:*
The last three nights I've had the same dream. Hamm and Steve Miller are on a liferaft, adrift in a wide blue ocean.................and then I wake up laughing
*
6:22

michael_o:*
Rock on Ruby to snatch 3rd?
*
6:22

trudij:*
HF should win easily - Oscars Well to be second, Binocular 3rd
*
6:22

SlimChance (cpt):*
Champion Hurdle prediction is HF goes off EVS
*
6:22

whitehorse:*
overturn
*
6:22

Del Boy:*
Hurricane Fly is as good as i have seen. Between him and Sprinter Sacre Im heavily weighted on day one
*
6:23

Grasshopper:*
Even if Sacre wins, Slim?
*
6:23

On*The*Bridle:*
Oscar Wells EW saver
*
6:23

betsmate:*
Big call White Horse!
*
6:23

Comment From Guest*
He's 11/10 at the moment with Betfred
*
6:23

SlimChance (cpt):*
Binocular to cause an upset with an SP of 10/3 for me
*
6:23

Trackside:*
Binocular at the prices.
*
6:23

Comment From JamesRB*
hills & now betfred have been laying fly at over evens last few days on & off. not been short of business. very popular and will be a huge battle between punter & bookie that could shape the rest of the festival.
*
6:24

michael_o:*

*
6:24

SlimChance (cpt):*

*
6:25

Del Boy:*
Sizing Australia for me. Watched a replay of last year recently and he made mistakes at three or four crucial times late on and still won. Id be pretty sweet on him. dont think Scotsirish will win, Uncle Junior supposedly will love the trip but i cant forget the fact that he used to be an absolute rogue

*
6:36

Comment From Marble*
I've come full circle on this race. Bobs Worth is the one I was totally against last month, but I've bought the argument that we'll see a different horse in the RSA and there's been money for him to get him to a 3/1 chance. Bobs Worth for me.
*
6:37

michael_o:*
Think GC's jumping will be suspect round here
*
6:37

Trackside:*
I would be concerned with jumping for Bob's Worth
*
6:37

On*The*Bridle:*
Sir des Champs goes for the Jewson if O'leary has any say
*
6:37

GC's jumping has been solid though. bobs worth needs to vastly improve his.

My pleasure.

None of those quotes attributed to me are what I actually said. My lawyers are watching.

I had to drop out before the specials, due to iphone battery & internet connection, but here's the low down on the distances:

2011 - Good (G/S places)
27 Races - 112.75 (Average 4.18 per race)

2010 - Good/Soft, Good & Soft
26 Races - Total - 94.7 (3.64)

2009 - Good/Soft
26 - Total 118.75 (4.57)

2008 - Good / Soft & Good
25 - Total 113 (4.52)

2007 - Soft & Good / Soft
24 - Total 72.7 (3.03)

2006 - Good (G/S places 1st 3 days)
24 - Total 68.75 (2.86)

2005 - Good
24 - Total 69.3 (2.89)

I can see the ground being similar to last year and would again be looking at a similar total. The spread quote is 112-120 and that's about right.

From a fixed odds point of view, the lowest / highest bands are:

Skybet 95-120 - Under 7/4, Exactly 6/4, Over 7/4
Coral 103-127 - 15/8, 6/4, 13/8

I would be very surprised not to fall in the middle of at least one of these, if not both.

does anyone think the whole business with kauto falling is a bit too much of nicholls loving the limelight and building it all up for him for this amazing comeback but also having a ready made excuse if he disappoints?

Wrong. He has absolutely not exaggerated.

It seems to me that the trainers are in a no-win situation - they're damned if they don't tell you something, they're damned if they do.

Yeah, 103-120 is right where the spread firm sees it too.

Found last years bets:

90-120 6/4 Skybet
92-117 15/8 VC Bet
95.75-115.75 85/40 Stan James

112.75 was good!

Very unhappy with the comments about me above. There were no women involved this weekend, had friends over and had a very heavy weekend. I have the fear all over this morning, and woke last night with palpitations. I am a broken man, and will not drink again.

I do like the idea of me along the Seine with a French lady though... :D

Oh of course they are damned either way - goes with the territory unfortunately!! But every single one of us (iirc - am on my phone at the mo so can't scroll back up to check!) regardless of who we want or have backed, would love kauto to win - so no matter what thinking there is about the fall thing - nobody would be unhappy to see "ze brown 'orze wiz ze white face" scamper up the hill in front!!!!

This year I'm backing:

Skybet 95-120 - 6/4
Coral 103-127 - 6/4

1pt on each returns:

Under 95 = 0
95-102.95 = 2.5
103-120 = 5
120.1-127 = 2.5
over 127 = 0

Skybet have now moved their line to 102-125, the overlap is still there with PP's 98-120 at 13/8, but now starts at 98 rather than 95. Betfair have a market up at 95-125 which looks great value at just over 5/4.
