Heading out on Boxing Day, will be spending most of the time on Ko Phangan. Anybody been, got specific recommendations? However am heading there with friends so Imagine I'll be fine.

On the way back though have got a couple of days in Bangkok planned, so after some ideas suggestions what to do/where to go. More than happy to be sticking to just the main tourist areas really.

Cheers

Hi David, never been to Ko Phanang I see the next full moon is on the 28th.....don't get too drunk I here it's pretty wild but very safe.

Bangkok I can certainly help you with

Where are you staying in Bangkok?

Much depends on what you are looking for and whether you are a couple or a guy out for some wild fun.

If you prefer to PM me please feel free

Vertigo at the Banyan Tree hotel is an open-air rooftop bar with an incredible view. You wouldn't want to spend too long there but it's worth a visit.

Ferry and Skytrain best way of getting around.

Thonburi (district on other side of the river) worth a look if you want to go slightly off the beaten track.

Khao San rd full of vomiting backpackers, lively if you don't mind that (not my scene at all though).

I'd love a bit of fun in Thailand, mate.

As you know I've got something nice in the pipeline at present but you tell me what your rent money is and if I'm not married in a year I'll come over, O.K?

haha i must admit I've always had a fetish for Thai women.

I only wish they had one for me, everytime I meet one they're so abrupt, a bit sick in the head maybe.?!!!!

Preferred Chiang Mai and Phuket to Bangkok but I would recommend the floating markets.

I should tell you David if you go to the Full Moon party on Friday don't take anything with you like your mobile, camera, wallet, watch etc. Stick 3-4000 baht in your pocket just enough to see you through the night. There are a lot of thieves that go there just to steal whatever they can.

In Bangkok if you want to go up the river in a private boat head for the Peninsula Hotel crossing on the City side. Taxi drivers know it well....There's a small bar run by a guy named Jack...........tell him Baden Green and his friend George said he would look after you and he'll make sure you don't get ripped off. If you happen to have abottle of Jack Daniels with you he'll also help you polish off.....he's a Thai BTW and a first class golfer.

About 1 1/2 to 2 hours outside Bangkok is Katchanaburi which hosts the River Kwai and the bridge the place is beautiful and well worth the effort.

As far as nightspost go stay the hell away from Patpong it's a sh!thole and they think nothing of ripping you off.

Best bars for girls are in Soi Cowboy and Soi Nana.

In Soi Cowboy Tilac Bar is probably one of the best in Bangkok. There's also Baccarat and Long Gun (sexy show) and Shark Bar. If you do go and you see lots of young girls in shorts and tops who all look like Miss Thaland these are Coyoty girls. They are there to lure you in but them expensive drinks about a fiver a pop and nothing else. There are about 7 of them in the Soi all owned by the same guy.

You just need to ask for Soi Cowboy and ant taxi will take you there.

Nana Plaza is a boy about town's paradise. Best Bars are Rainbow 4 and 2 and 3 just don't wander into Obsession by mistake or you mate meet Lola with the husky voice.

Nana Plaza is again known to every Taxi driver it's on Soi 4 off Sukhumvit Road........best bar for a dink and a game of pool prior to heading off to the plaza itself is Hillary 4 it's 100 yds into the Soi (Road) on the left. Happy hour from about 4pm to 9pm beer is about 90 baht for a small bottle. All the girls are very nice and chatty just be careful you don't end up with one and her 3 friends or they'll drink you dry......if they ask for tequila say no because they drink the damn stuff like water and you'll have bout them 10 drinks before you know it.

There are other bars in the soi like the Irishh Pub and an English one a sports bar etc. Bus Stop is a beer garden where you can grab some reasonable food.......There are thousands of restaurants very few are bad and not many are too expensive..........as Benny says the Banyan tree is ok for a visit but you could have a weekend in Cha am for the price of a meal with good wine. Last time I was there with Spanish guy he went nuts and it cost him 56,000 baht for 4 people but mainly because of the wine which is way over the top.

There's a lovely new wine bar on the Corner of Sukhumvit Soi 31 a massive selection of wines and not too expensive. They serve some great cheeses and bread also and it's very relaxing.

There are bars in that area in Soi 33 and 22 give them a miss places are dead hardly anyone goes there these days.

Merry Xmas and have a great holiday..

Bad News to start the new year A 23 year old Brit Stephen David Ashton was shot dead by a drunk Thai at 4am on Ko Phangan where DJ is holidaying.

Thanks for that Tanlic, wish I had seen it beforehand! Ko Phangan a really nice island in the main. Was feeling like death warmed up in Bangkok so didn't really make the best of it.

No worries David life can be pretty hectic here. I can only imagine what Ko Phangan is like during the full moon......Next time save some energy and I'll catch up with you for a few bottles of Jack Daniels.............puts hair on your chest;)

I worked there in Chiang Mai in the 70`s old boy, running a frozen food factory, when the wars , the Golden Triangle et al still had a big influence. CIA were very busy with us. If you see a lady called Pin who must be 40 0dd now and she speaks with a Welsh accent please let me know but don`t give her my contact details
