Must be the best Goodwood I’ve had in donkey’s years, but it’s a shame that it deteriorated into quagmire by the end.
On the 2yo front the stand out must be Vandeek who looked very special and it was a shame that second time out Array got nutted by a 20/1 shot. More to come there, I think. I did enjoy it, but I do think Al Husn is being underestimated because of the way the race unfolded and the muck up of the favourite. Bit of luck that might influence future price
Other take outs:
Designer in the first race on day one didn’t get a clear run until the final furlong which she ran the fastest time in company with the winner. I don’t think she would have caught Lord Riddiford, but she’d have been much closer.
Man of Eden on Thursday was badly hampered a couple out and just couldn’t get a clear run and did well to finish in third. Keeps running well, but finding reason not to win he’s due a bit of luck.
In the same race Metal Merchant was stopped twice as doors closed at the sharp end and ran on to finish fifth. Seemed to be travelling very well and Ryan Moore was a notable booking so I think more was expected.
