Same as TS - though different horse. Southern Vic was unlucky to come to grief in the Becher having jumped well throughout, a good prep run last week will have helped and the marathon trip will suit him IMO.

I see that Paul Barber is not keen on Denman running in the National and that Findlay is not so enthusiastic. Would mean a lot more in the handicap if he does not run.

If you wanted the handicapper to tempt you by letting you in off a good mark and compressing the weights, you'd say that too, wouldn't you?

They tempt them enough as it is though DO - the top horses generally get in off half a stone less than they should do on the basis that they want them to run. With an attitude like that in 20 years time the race will be a conditions chase with penalties.

I'm not disagreeing. They tempt them very seriously, I'd say, but if you owned Denman wouldn't you make the kind of noises that might persuade them to tempt them even more seriously? I would!

I definitely would - you wouldn't catch me saying "he's got in far too light" put it that way but they are twisting the handicappers arm and if they twist it much more it'll break and it'll go back to regular weights.

Lysander and Malko de Beaumont out today too racing over 4m.

The one I've got my eye on for April is Hear The Echo, wouldn't be the first Irish Grand National winner to be targetted for Aintree and do well.

L'Ami has had his enthusiasm rekindled by Enda Bolger, but I'll wait for the weights - he may be a little high, ditto King John's Castle and Notre Pere. I like the look of Charile Swan's pair as well, and Seymour Weld
