Got an e-mail update on this 'n' that from the Racehorse Owners' Association this morning, in which I found a useful link to the British Horseracing Authority's Rules of Racing website.
The rules of racing are being reformatted and rewritten in order to cut through jargon and frame them in plain(er) English. The final cut should come out in September 2009, so they're a work in progress, being amended, added to and subtracted from until then. The aim is to present the entire rules, covering everything from horses' headgear, how to lead horses to post, riders' rules, et cetera, more transparently to the public.
For the current site, go to http://www.rules.britishhorseracing.com
For the site in progress, go to http://www.newrules.britishhorseracing.com (except that it's just redirected me to the old site!)
and to tell 'em what you think they should be doing, write to rules@britishhorseracing.com !
