Tonight's the night.
The nine Cartier Racing Awards will be revealed and presented during a glittering ceremony before an invited audience of 340 at the Dorchester Hotel, London, England on the evening of Tuesday, November 12.
The five horses nominated for Cartier Horse Of The Year include the world's best performer, the unbeaten and brilliant filly Treve, as well as Moonlight Cloud and Novellist, both with a 100 per cent record this year. The two others going for the main award are Sky Lantern and Al Kazeem, each a three-time Group One winner in 2013.
The Cartier Older Horse nominations include three horses unbeaten during 2013 - Farhh, Moonlight Cloud and Novellist, while Declaration Of War finished a close third in the Grade One Breeders' Cup Classic after winning two Group Ones in Europe earlier in the year and Al Kazeem captured three Group Ones.
The battle for the accolade of Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt is between Godolphin's QIPCO 2000 Guineas scorer Dawn Approach, trained by Jim Bolger who is also responsible for Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby winner Trading Leather, Coolmore's recent Breeders' Cup Turf winner Magician and Investec Derby victor Ruler Of The World plus the Richard Hannon-trained Toronado, successful in the QIPCO Sussex Stakes.
Unbeaten Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Treve goes head to head with Sky Lantern, who gained three Group Ones over a mile this year, with Investec Oaks scorer Talent, Etihad Airways Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Just The Judge and Chicquita, who captured the Darley Irish Oaks, completing the nominations.
Kingston Hill and Toormore are unbeaten juveniles vying for the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt Award, along with Outstrip, Sudirman and War Command who are all Group One winners.
Chriselliam, like Outstrip, was the thrilling winner of a Grade One Breeders' Cup race earlier this month, while Rizeena and Vorda have performed at the top-level throughout the year. Indonesienne stepped up to victory in the Group One Total Prix Marcel Boussac and Lucky Kristale was successful on four of her five starts for Newmarket trainer George Margarson.
Lethal Force was the decisive winner of both the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and Darley July Cup from Society Rock and is the one to beat for the Cartier Sprinter category, with three contenders from Ireland, Gordon Lord Byron, Sole Power and Slade Power challenging.
The Cartier Stayer Award could go to Her Majesty The Queen's Estimate, who provided her owner with a thrilling Gold Cup success at Royal Ascot, with global star Red Cadeaux, Michael Owen's Brown Panther, Altano and Tac De Boistron being the other nominations.
The Cartier Awards were established in 1991 to reward excellence in horseracing. They are determined by points earned by horses in Pattern races throughout 2013, combined at the end of season with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists and votes from readers of Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph plus Channel 4 viewers.
In addition to the eight equine awards, the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award of Merit goes to the person or persons who, in the opinion of the special 16-strong Cartier Jury, has/have done the most for European racing and/or breeding either over their lifetime or within the past 12 months.
Harry Herbert, Cartier's racing consultant, commented: "We have had a tremendous 2013 Flat season which has thrilled from start to finish.
"The Cartier Racing Awards honour the horses who have reached the top in our wonderful sport and we are set for a terrific evening on November 12 when the winners are unveiled.
"This is the 23rd year of the Cartier Racing Awards and huge thanks are due to Cartier for being such steadfast supporters of European racing."
